Job Description

The global energy transition is accelerating the demand for cleaner, more reliable electricity transmission. High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) and Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) are key enablers for integrating renewable energy interconnecting markets and strengthening AC grids.
GE Vernova’s Grid Systems Integration business delivers ACS (Alternating Current Systems), HVDC (VSC and LCC technologies) and FACTS applications.

The Senior Technical Expert– Control & Protection will act as the regional technical expert supporting project execution, technology deployment, and competence development across assigned geographies.

This position bridges the global R&D and Consulting Engineer organization with local project teams, ensuring consistent application of best practices, technical quality, and product knowledge across the regional project portfolio.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Leadership

  • Support the regional technical experts for ACS, HVDC and FACTS Control & Protection platforms, providing expert guidance to engineering, project, and tendering teams.

  • Support and act as Chair depending on DoA of project design reviews, validation activities, and technical decision-making to ensure compliance with GE Vernova design standards, cybersecurity policies, and safety-by-design principles.

  • Lead or contribute to root cause analyses, lessons learned, and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Review technical documentation, interface specifications, and system architectures.

  • Overseeing the overall technical solution that meets customer's requirement based on reference solution.

Regional Technical Support

  • Act as the primary regional interface between central team and local project delivery organizations.

  • Provide specialized support for project execution and commissioning activities.

  • Collaborate with Supply Chain, Manufacturing, and Quality teams to resolve product or integration issues.

  • Support tenders and bids with technical expertise, risk assessments, and optimized platform configurations.

Competence Development

  • Mentor and coach senior and lead engineers in ACS, HVDC and FACTS Control & Protection technology, methodologies, and standards.

  • Support technical training initiatives and competence assessments.

  • Contribute to regional knowledge-sharing sessions, ensuring dissemination of lessons learned and best practices.

Innovation & Product Feedback

  • Provide structured feedback to the global platform R&D team on field performance, integration challenges, and customer needs.

  • Participate in internal design validation, pilot projects.

  • Identify opportunities for platform improvement and cost optimization based on regional market trends and project experience.

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Work closely with Project Engineering Managers, System and Control Design Leads, Product Managers, and global Consulting Engineers to ensure alignment between project requirements and product capabilities.

  • Support customer technical discussions and represent GE Vernova in technical forums, audits, and clarification meetings within the region.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering tools, templates, and workflows.

Qualifications / Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related discipline (or equivalent professional experience).

  • Proven experience in the design, development, or commissioning of Control & Protection systems, including exposure to system integration and testing.

  • Deep understanding of real-time control and protection architectures, digital hardware platforms, and communication networks.

  • Solid knowledge of testing, verification, and validation strategies for control systems.

  • Familiarity with Safety-by-Design, and EMC design and testing methods.

  • Strong experience supporting project delivery environments—preferably across multiple geographies and with cross-functional interfaces.

  • Knowledge of IEC 61850, IEEE 1588, protection philosophies, and substation automation concepts.

  • Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and lead technical problem-solving activities.

  • Open to regional and occasional international travel.
