Job Description

Lead technical and customer engagements to generate solutions on grid integration of complex systems like data centers and wind plants. Support establishing and enhancing collaborations in these areas with GEV Businesses and external stakeholders. Support mentoring/guiding members on power systems studies, GEV products and solutions.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Lead and conduct technical analysis in a team setting related to power system stability, battery energy storage systems and Data Centers.
  • Identify scope of studies and modeling efforts required to solve GEV and GEV customer technical challenges and preparing proposals in collaboration with other technical and commercial contributors.
  • Lead complex NPI, NTI, or new/emerging application studies
  • Develop industry leading processes and standards for model development and management, benchmarking
  • Support global CS and GEV Business leaders on shaping the workforce and organizations required to support the energy transition
  • Provide leadership/guidance on what elite consulting and generation/transmission business looks like for grid integration of technology, modeling, and lifecycle support
  • Develop strategy for re-purposing and maintaining legacy software tools for application to new/emerging application
  • Establish rapport with key industry stakeholders and facilitate new working/business relationships
  • Facilitate technical knowledge sharing among global CS teams and help bridge technical gaps
  • Oversee work of technical teams and coordinate with technical directors on systems/process to maintain/improve quality
  • Engage with and lead industry advocacy groups on behalf of GEV and coordinate GE CS involvement in those activities
  • Helping to establish recruiting pathways and internship programs to facilitate steady pipeline of new candidates
  • Lead IP development activities (including mentoring, training on processes)
  • Educating external stakeholders on GEV equipment capabilities and performance

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Systems Engineering with a minimum of 20 years of experience in electric power industry; or PhD in Electrical Engineering or Power Systems Engineering with a minimum of 17 years of experience in electric power industry with demonstrated experience in:
    • Technical performance analysis of electric power systems with power electronic sources or loads, or
    • Global Inverter Based Resource grid integration requirements and certifications, including model development and performance evaluation of grid integration inverter and plant control functions
    • Stability assessments of Data Center systems with on-site-generation
    • Gas turbine control representation in power system stability studies
    • Experience with transient analysis. Proficiency using and leading efforts with RMS and EMT simulation tools
  • 20 years of experience in a consulting organization, OEM organization, utility or system operator performing engineering analysis and design, and developing engineering solutions in a team environment, and providing technical consulting/advice services to customers.
  • 5+ years with positions including mentoring less experienced engineers.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or Power Systems Engineering
  • Experience with NPI/NTIs at GEV in subjects relating to data center power systems with on-site-generation.
  • Passion for working in an open, sharing, and supportive environment where team members welcome opportunities to assist each other with solving challenging technical problems
  • Experience with wide system level studies in a consulting or utility environment.
  • Experience supporting power electronics control development for products connected to bulk utility systems or large industrial systems.
  • Familiarity with modeling and simulation requirements globally
  • Experience mentoring teams on creation of models of complex equipment in transient analysis (ATP, EMTP-RV, PSCAD, etc) and stability (PSSE, PowerFactory, PSLF, etc) simulation tools based on field tests or equipment.
  • Experience in preparation of complex technical proposals
  • Active participation within industry professional societies, such as ESIG, IEEE or CIGRE
  • Willingness to travel (20% is typical).

For candidates applying to a U.S. based position, the pay range for this position is between $152,400.00 and $254,000.00. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas.
