Job Description

Department Product Creation Development Reports to: Director, Product Development - TCC Location: Tokyo, Japan  Your opportunity at Arc’teryx: As a Senior Technical Developer, you are responsible for managing product from concept through to production readiness directly with the Product Creation team and factory partner. Your innovative and solutions-focused approach to development ensures that each product you work on meets Arc’teryx design intent and supply chain requirements. You lead with integrity and by example, providing overall support and mentoring to the technical and product developers. 
This role is based out of our Tokyo Creation Centre and is expected to be performed on-location. Candidates must be eligible to work in Japan.   
Meet your future team: You will be part of a focused team of technical and product developers, designers, pattern makers, and cut and sew team that works on creating innovative product. This team builds strong relationships with cross-functional partners and factories to realize ideas into commercialized successes. 

If you were in the Senior Technical Developer role now, here are some of the core activities you would be responsible for:

  • Creating tech packs to communicate specifications for aesthetic, construction, fit and measurement 
  • Communicating the fit, design and construction comments and corrections clearly to factories  
  • Executing the development of product from concept through commercialization, including interpreting design intent, and coordinating prototypes and sample creation 
  • Providing thorough product information and construction information to enable efficient sourcing and purchase of raw materials 
  • Facilitating and leading team meetings and reporting team metrics to the Development Lead 
  • Supporting and influencing the development process to achieve commercial viability of designs through leading collaboration with Design, Materials Development, Sourcing, and Quality Teams  
  • Supporting, coaching, and training new hires as required, encouraging effective problem solving and discretionary decision making 
  • Providing feedback for efficiencies on the development timelines  
  • Developing and maintaining accurate sample garment measurement specifications in our Product Line Management System (Centric) 
  • Supporting in the training of new factory resources and ensuring that Arc’teryx brand standards are met   
  • Ensuring calendar deliverables are met 

Here are some of the things you could be working on in the future:

  • Collaborating with our 3D Digital Team on CLO3D capabilities for utilization opportunities with vendors 
  • Helping establish a development process that balances autonomy and opportunity within the larger product creation process 
  • Providing engagement training for current and future vendors 
  • Strengthening vendor relations through effective communication and travel, to both domestic and offshore vendors and manufacturers 
  • Strategizing and evaluate process on prototype turnaround timelines 

Are you our next Senior Technical Developer?

  • You have 7+ years’ experience in product development, technical design or pattern making, with a focus on technical, innovative apparel and equipment 
  • You have an Undergraduate Degree OR equivalent industry training, certification, or related business experience 
  • You have a strong knowledge of raw materials, technical construction, and sourcing 
  • You are proficient in PLM, Adobe creative suite and Microsoft Office  
  • You have the wiliness to travel domestically and internationally 
  • You have experience in product costing  
  • You have a comprehensive understanding of design intent, product aesthetics, construction, fit and communicate with factories via technical drawings and fit photos 
  • You have a complete understanding of the product lifecycle process - from ideation to consumer, including an understanding of production attributes 
  • You have experience effectively communicating with and travelling to domestic and offshore vendors and manufacturers 
  • You are fluent in English, with an understanding of Japanese, or are open to learning Japanese  
  • You are able to work flexible hours, as needed, to connect with global teams 
  • You are comfortable communicating with factories via technical drawings and fit photos 
  • You are detailed and accuracy oriented, with strong organizational skills 
  • You demonstrate initiative, agility, and commitment, while balancing autonomy and collaboration  
  • You are proactive in identifying the root cause of issues and develop the best (sometimes not the easiest) solutions with an unwavering commitment to do right 
  • Your passion for your work is paralleled by your passion for getting outside and living it
