Job Description

Printfresh is seeking an experienced Senior Technical Designer to lead fit, construction, garment specifications, and technical execution across our women’s apparel categories, including woven dresses, blouses, sleepwear, and related products.

This is a hands-on, highly collaborative role responsible for translating creative concepts into beautifully fitting, production-ready garments. The Senior Technical Designer will partner closely with Design, Product Development, Production, and overseas factories throughout the development process, from initial design review and tech-pack creation through fittings, grading, approvals, and production.

The role is based primarily in our Philadelphia office. In-person attendance is essential for fittings and cross-functional collaboration, with some opportunity to work from home when the schedule permits.

Responsibilities

Technical Design and Product Development

• Own the technical development of assigned women’s apparel styles from initial concept through production approval.
• Review new designs and advise on fit, construction, fabrication, proportion, and manufacturability.
• Create and maintain detailed, accurate tech packs, specification sheets, construction details, and measurement charts.
• Measure and spec garments before fittings, ensuring samples and specifications are accurate and ready for review.
• Establish and maintain blocks, fit standards, construction standards, and measurement guidelines across categories.
• Identify potential fit, quality, and production issues early and recommend practical solutions.

Fittings and Factory Communication

• Lead and participate in in-person fittings at our Philadelphia office.
• Evaluate overall fit, balance, proportion, movement, construction, and garment performance.
• Take detailed fitting notes, measurements, and photographs to clearly document required revisions.
• Prepare precise, actionable fit comments for factories and development partners.
• Communicate directly with overseas factories and agents to resolve fit and construction questions.
• Review revised samples and track changes through subsequent fit rounds and approvals.
• Maintain clear records of fit history, decisions, and outstanding technical issues.

Sizing and Grading

• Review and approve grading across Printfresh’s broad, size-inclusive range, including standard, plus, petite, and tall sizing.
• Partner with internal teams and external vendors to ensure consistent fit, proportion, and brand standards across the full size range.
• Evaluate grade rules and recommend adjustments based on garment type, fabrication, and customer needs.
• Help evolve Printfresh’s fit standards as the apparel assortment and customer base continue to grow.

Cross-Functional Leadership

• Partner closely with Design to preserve the intended aesthetic while ensuring garments are functional, comfortable, and production-ready.
• Collaborate with Product Development and Production to keep technical milestones on schedule.
• Provide guidance and technical expertise to internal team members and external partners.
• Support the continued improvement of technical-design processes, templates, standards, and documentation.
• Update technical flats and construction sketches in Adobe Illustrator as needed.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of technical-design experience in women’s apparel, ideally with comparable contemporary, lifestyle, sleepwear, or size-inclusive brands.
• Advanced knowledge of women’s garment fit, patternmaking, construction, grading, specifications, and production.
• Strong experience with woven garments, including dresses, blouses, and sleepwear.
• Demonstrated experience fitting and grading an extended size range; experience with plus, petite, and tall sizing is strongly preferred.
• Experience developing product with overseas factories, particularly factories in India.
• Strong knowledge of natural fibers, woven fabrics, garment washing, shrinkage, and fabric performance.
• Ability to create clear, accurate, factory-ready tech packs and fitting comments.
• Strong computer skills, including Google Drive, Google Docs, and Google Sheets and PLM systems.
• Adobe Illustrator proficiency is preferred.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and follow-through skills.
• Strong problem-solving ability and the confidence to make clear technical recommendations.
• Excellent product judgment and a strong eye for proportion, quality, and design.
• Comfortable working in a creative, fast-moving, collaborative environment.

Requirements

• This is a full-time position based primarily in our Philadelphia office.
• The Senior Technical Designer is expected to work in the office five days most weeks, particularly when fittings, sample reviews, and cross-functional meetings are scheduled.
• Occasional work-from-home flexibility may be available for focused tasks such as creating tech packs, processing fitting notes, and preparing factory comments.
• Candidates must be able to provide examples of completed tech packs and other relevant technical-design work during the interview process.
