Why teach at the British Council – Natalia's Story
& Purpose
The British Council is seeking an experienced and passionate professional to support high-quality English language teaching and learning in our centre. You will lead the development of academic standards through in‑house teacher development programmes, ensuring teachers are well supported and continuously improving their practice.
Working closely with colleagues, you will promote effective teaching and help create a stimulating and rewarding learning experience that drives learner progress and satisfaction. You will also contribute to the wider organisational mission, aligning your work with our cultural relations goals and values.
As the UK’s international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities, we work in over 100 countries to build connections through English, education, arts and culture. English teaching is central to our work, creating life‑changing opportunities for learners and strengthening the UK’s global reputation. This is an opportunity to join a globally respected organisation and be part of a supportive international teaching community.
Role Accountabilities
We are seeking an experienced academic leader to full teacher support to a team working within a shared area of expertise. The role includes planning, setting objectives, modelling an inclusive culture, and leading recruitment, development and performance management to ensure consistently high teaching standards.
You will deliver effective day-to-day people management, including observations aligned with performance frameworks and global teaching standards. You will ensure teaching quality, support staff wellbeing, act as a duty officer when required, and play a key role in the recruitment, induction and mentoring of new teachers or those working with new learner groups.
Teaching excellence is central to the role. You will contribute to the design, delivery and evaluation of a Continuous Professional Development programme aligned to regional priorities, identify development opportunities for staff, and teach classes where required. As a role model for best practice, you will lead observations, demonstration lessons and development sessions, share current ELT thinking, and promote excellence within the centre and externally.
You will ensure teaching and learning frameworks, standards and product guidelines are embedded across academic and operational teams. Working closely with Teaching Operations and Customer Services, you will support academic enquiries, manage feedback and contribute to product development, piloting and evaluation. You will also support small-to-medium scale projects by working with stakeholders to define requirements, assess equality and diversity impact, and support implementation and review.
