What you’d be doing in this role
As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.

Designing and maintaining reliable, scalable integrations between Canva’s tax platforms and the broader finance ecosystem including NetSuite, Zuora, Snowflake, and other critical business systems.
Driving automation and AI-enabled workflows across the tax technology landscape to improve compliance, reduce manual effort, and strengthen operational efficiency.
Designing and maintaining SOX/ITGC controls, supporting audit readiness, and ensuring robust governance across all tax systems and integrations.
Partnering closely with Tax, Accounting, Engineering, Technical Program Managers, and external vendors to shape Canva’s long-term tax systems roadmap.
Leading sandbox strategy, release orchestration, regression testing, and platform change management across quarterly release cycles.
Building scalable documentation, runbooks, and operational processes that empower Canva’s Finance teams to work confidently and effectively.

You have 5+ years of experience owning and operating enterprise tax systems such as Avalara, Vertex, Thomson Reuters OITC/OTP, or Fonoa within a global SaaS or high-growth technology environment.
You bring strong API integration experience across REST/SOAP services and hands-on experience with Workato or similar iPaaS tooling, alongside solid SQL capability. Python experience for ETL or automation workflows is highly regarded.
You’ve successfully delivered automation or AI-driven initiatives within finance, compliance, or tax systems environments and enjoy identifying opportunities to simplify complex workflows.
You have a strong understanding of global indirect tax obligations including VAT/GST, US sales tax, digital services taxes, marketplace facilitator rules, and e-invoicing ecosystems such as PEPPOL.
You’re experienced in SOX/ITGC controls, audit support, evidence management, and change governance practices across enterprise systems.
You’re comfortable translating technical complexity into clear, actionable insights for Finance, Tax, and leadership stakeholders.
You thrive in high-growth, fast-moving environments where ambiguity is part of the journey and collaboration is key to success.

We're a global online visual communications platform on a mission to empower the world to design. Featuring a simple drag-and-drop user interface and a vast range of templates ranging from presentations, documents, websites, social media graphics, posters, apparel to videos, plus a huge library of fonts, stock photography, illustrations, video footage, and audio clips, anyone can take an idea and create something beautiful on Canva on any device, from anywhere in the world.
Since our launch in 2013, we’ve had the crazy big goal of making design accessible to everyone. We were founded on the belief that people shouldn't need to understand complex software to unlock their creativity. We’re leveling the playing field and democratizing access to design and visual communication by empowering 100% of the world to communicate in a way that was once limited to the 1%.
We've always had a deeper mission surrounding Canva — which we talk about as our 'simple' two-step plan: to build one of the world’s most valuable companies, and to do the most good we possibly can. We're committed to our core value of Being a Force for Good, so as the value of our company grows, so too does our ability to have a positive impact on the world.
