Job Description

Invisible, Yet Essential

You may not notice our carbon black at first glance, but it is everywhere – in the tires that get you safely to your destination, in the smartphone you use every day, in the paints and coatings that bring color to your home, and in the batteries that power the future. Without it, modern life would come to a standstill.

What you will notice at Orion is our commitment to investing in people. We invest in your development, your ambitions and your future. We provide the environment, support and opportunities that allow you to grow professionally, personally and financially. Your contribution matters here and it is recognized.

Tax is far more than compliance. It creates certainty, enables growth and provides the foundation for business decisions.

As Senior Tax Manager, you will play a key role within our international tax organization. You will act as the primary tax expert for our German entities and serve as a trusted sparring partner to the Head of Global Tax based in the United States. Together, you will ensure compliance with national and international tax requirements, support important business decisions and actively contribute to the further development of our tax function.

You will join an environment built on trust, ownership and collaboration. We will give you the freedom to take responsibility, drive initiatives forward, improve processes and help shape the future of the tax function within a global industrial organization.

Before we dive into the details: the essentials.

37.5-hour working week | 80% remote working, Tuesdays in the Cologne office | Permanent employment contract | Cologne, Germany | 30 days annual leave | Salary range: €109,000 – €128,000 (Chemical Industry Collective Agreement)

A role with responsibility and impact:

  • You will be the primary point of contact for tax matters relating to our German entities and work closely with international colleagues, external advisers and tax authorities. In this role, you will take ownership of the tax affairs of our German operations within a global corporate environment.
  • Working closely with the Head of Global Tax, you will ensure compliance with national and international tax requirements, support the ongoing development of our European tax activities and coordinate with finance teams, external advisers and key stakeholders across multiple jurisdictions.
  • You will be responsible for the preparation and review of tax returns, tax opinions and technical tax assessments, support quarterly and annual US GAAP reporting processes and ensure reliable tax reporting across the Group.
  • You will manage tax audits with confidence, ensuring thorough preparation, clear communication and a consistently high standard of technical quality.
  • You will oversee corporate tax compliance for assigned entities and territories, support local transfer pricing documentation and contribute to the practical implementation of international tax requirements.
  • Your ideas will directly contribute to the further development of our Tax Compliance Management System as well as the optimization and digitalization of tax processes. In doing so, you will help create efficient ways of working and continuously improve the tax function.
  • As a trusted adviser, you will support colleagues outside the tax function, translate complex tax matters into practical business recommendations and provide clarity in an international environment. You know how to align different interests, prioritize effectively and drive topics through to completion.

The profile we are looking for:

  • A degree in Business Administration, Economics, Finance or comparable discipline provides the foundation for your expertise. A professional tax qualification is welcome but not essential.
  • Several years of experience within an international corporate environment have given you a strong understanding of German and international tax matters. Ideally, you have first-hand experience working within a global industrial organization.
  • You are comfortable working independently, take ownership of your responsibilities and approach your work in a structured, diligent and solution-oriented manner.
  • You analyze complex matters with precision and can balance different interests while building trusted relationships across and beyond the tax function.
  • Reliability, sound judgement and a strong attention to detail are among your key strengths. Even in complex situations involving changing priorities and multiple stakeholders, you remain focused and pragmatic.
  • Fluent German and English (minimum C1 level) are essential. Ideally, you also bring SAP experience and enjoy challenging existing processes, driving improvements and supporting the digital transformation of the tax function.
