This role offers the opportunity to influence business decisions from the earliest stages of strategic planning through execution. You'll collaborate with leaders across Finance, Strategic Business Development, Legal, and other business partners to design innovative, tax-efficient solutions that support the company's growth while ensuring compliance with evolving tax regulations.

If you enjoy solving complex tax challenges, partnering on high-impact transactions, and helping drive business strategy, this is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Strategic Transaction Consulting

  • Serve as the tax subject matter expert for internal and external reinsurance transactions, providing guidance on transaction structures, agreements, and tax implications.
  • Partner with Strategic Business Development to support mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and other corporate initiatives from due diligence through execution.
  • Evaluate transaction structures and recommend creative, tax-efficient alternatives that optimize business outcomes.
  • Communicate the financial and economic impact of tax strategies to business leaders and cross-functional partners.

Tax Planning & Research

  • Develop and evaluate innovative tax planning strategies to minimize federal, state, and premium tax liabilities.
  • Conduct complex tax research and provide practical guidance on technical tax matters affecting the organization.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments and assess their impact on business operations and strategic initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to improve tax efficiency while maintaining compliance with applicable regulations.

Cross-Functional Partnership & Compliance

  • Partner with the Corporate Tax team to support quarterly tax provisions and annual federal and state tax filings.
  • Collaborate with Finance, Accounting, Legal, Actuarial, and business leaders to ensure tax considerations are incorporated into strategic decisions.
  • Educate stakeholders on the tax implications of business transactions and planning opportunities.
  • Support a culture of strong governance, compliance, and continuous improvement across the tax function.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in corporate taxation with advanced technical tax expertise.
  • Experience providing tax guidance within the insurance industry, including knowledge of insurance tax regulations and requirements.
  • Experience supporting complex business initiatives, transactions, or strategic projects, including tax analysis, structuring, and risk assessment.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and premium tax requirements affecting insurance organizations.
  • Proven ability to analyze complex tax issues and develop practical, business-focused solutions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex tax concepts into actionable recommendations for business leaders and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships across cross-functional teams and influence decision-making in a consultative capacity.
  • Experience developing and implementing tax planning strategies that balance business objectives, risk management, and regulatory compliance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with reinsurance taxation, including tax considerations related to reinsurance transactions and structures.
  • Experience supporting mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, or other strategic corporate transactions.
  • Experience serving as a tax advisor on large-scale or complex business initiatives.
  • Experience within the life insurance industry.
  • Master's degree in Taxation, CPA, JD, or other advanced tax credential.
