Job Description

SUMMARY

The Senior Tax Administrator is responsible for performing mutual fund regulatory and tax reporting functions in a manner that ensures fund objectives are met for the clients for Ultimus Fund Solutions (UFS.) This position performs duties including the training and supervision of associates and the processes used by them.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

TAX PREPARATION

  • Prepares and reviews of estimated year-end income and capital gain distributions.
  • Prepares and reviews Subchapter M and Excise tax provision work papers.
  • Calculates fund distribution requirements to satisfy both income and excise requirements.
  • Prepares tax work papers and distribution analyses for mutual funds.
  • Determines the fund tax status of investments and the identification of book and tax differences.
  • Analyzes complex general ledger accounts to provide roll-forward of tax accounts and to identify items of income and expense that would require a tax treatment different than a book.
  • Provides training to fund administration team on department workflow processes and performs limited, preliminary product review on work to ensure adherence to department guidelines.

TAX COMPLIANCE AND REPORTING

  • Researches and analyzes the initial interpretation of federal and state tax laws and regulations, and court or other regulatory agencies rulings or decisions to meet compliance requirements and report to managers.
  • Coordinates efforts with the financial administration department for the development of tax and regulatory compliance for reporting to regulatory agencies, board of directors, and financial officers.
  • Maintains current knowledge of IRS tax law requirements.

AUDIT ADMINISTRATION

  • Gathers information needed to respond to IRS and auditor requests in connection with formal or informal audits.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

  • Acts as second level escalation point for issues and problems; resolves where appropriate to provide effective support.
  • Mentors associates through instruction, coaching, providing real-time on-the-job experiences, modeling effective practices, and advising on methods used.
  • Daily contact with the tax associate and tax administrator I to provide guidance in their development.
  • Daily contact with the financial administration department regarding tax implications of investment activities.
  • Contact as needed with regulatory agencies and audit firms regarding general information, resolution of issues and inquiries, or reporting requirements.

May perform other duties as required and assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, tax, accounting, finance, or related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience with mutual fund taxation and fund administration of mutual funds experience.
  • Equivalent education and experience will be considered.

KNOWLEDGE

  • Tax laws and procedures applicable to investment companies.
  • Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Adobe Acrobat.
