PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The Senior Tax Accountant is responsible for supporting the organization's tax compliance, reporting, and planning activities by preparing and reviewing corporate tax returns, conducting tax research, and ensuring adherence to federal, state, and local tax regulations. This role works closely with internal stakeholders and external advisors to identify tax risks, maintain compliance, optimize tax processes, and contribute to the accurate and timely completion of all tax-related filings and provisions. The Senior Tax Accountant also serves as a technical resource, providing guidance on tax matters and supporting audits, examinations, and special tax projects.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Tax Preparation and Analysis:
- Prepares and reviews tax calculations, tax provision schedules, returns, payments and documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements (federal, state, and local tax authorities) and maintain internal database.
- Coordinate outsourced tax preparation work.
- Researches and interprets complex tax regulations and legislation to stay abreast of changes that may impact the company's tax position and strategy and be a strong communicator to articulate findings with senior leadership.
- Ensures accurate and timely filing of consolidated federal, state, and local income tax returns and other business-related filings.
- Maintains, records, conducts and oversees reconciles and verifies accuracy and resolves discrepancies within reconciliations on all tax accounts.
- Supports all tax deadlines internal and external and deliverable timing calendar/schedule.
Accounting Operations and Reconciliations
- Performs tax reconciliations monthly and resolves all reconciliation issues timely and independently.
- Reviews and verifies the accuracy of tax journal entries and accounting classifications assigned to various records and makes corrections as needed to ensure tax provision accuracy.
- Assembles, creates, and reconciles month-end accounting entries resolving discrepancies.
- Prepares all tax account entries by compiling and analyzing account information.
- Investigates and resolves moderately complex accounting discrepancies by evaluating root causes and recommending corrective actions.
- Supports month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes and tax processes.
Process Improvement and Governance
- Proven ability to influence and collaborate with stakeholders through the effective communication of tax accounting concepts, policies, and practices.
- Supports internal and external audits as well as regulatory examinations by coordinating requests, preparing documentation, and responding to inquiries
- Leads and implements process improvement initiatives related to financial reporting, analysis, system functionality, internal controls, and operational efficiency.
- Upholds financial security by following internal controls.
- Provides guidance, training, and mentoring to tax provisional inquiries by teammates.
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Prepares key components of income and balance sheet statements, consolidated statements, and various other accounting statements and reports.
- Maintains, records, and reconciles all tax accounting information across source systems.
- Coordinates special tax projects, ensures integrity of accounting information, and develops new or improved methods and procedures.
- Independently analyzes complex financial transactions and accounting tax issues, identifies trends and risks, and provides recommendations to management.
- Research and interpret tax accounting standards, policies, and procedures to ensure appropriate accounting treatment and effectively communicates any changes
- Leads tax assigned accounting projects and process improvement initiatives within the department.
- Coordinates and leads assigned tax accounting projects and department initiatives, ensuring timely completion of objectives and deliverables.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This role does not have supervisory responsibilities.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university required with a major or emphasis in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Minimum 5-7 years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
None required. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Intermediate knowledge of General Accounting, A/P, A/R and/or in an accountant role required.
- Experience with automated accounting and financial management systems.
- Solid knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Proven ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing and interact effectively with management, employees, and auditors.
- Ability to convey complex financial issues to non-financial users.
- Ability to work independently and meet stringent deadlines; detail-oriented and highly organized. Ability to collect, analyze, and summarize data and to prepare clear and concise reports.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite applications.
- Ability to support effective partnerships with key groups and individuals and have good consultation and change management skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate accounting issues, identify root causes, and recommend solutions.
- Ability to interpret accounting policies, procedures, and regulations and apply professional judgment to complex situations.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Office environment – no specific or unusual physical or environmental demands and employees are regularly required to sit, walk, stand, talk, and hear.

This position operates in an office environment and requires the frequent use of a computer, telephone, copier, and other standard office equipment.

The current range for this position is
$78,678.61 - $132,686.15
This range is exclusive of fringe benefits and potential bonuses. If hired at ICW Group, your final base salary compensation will be determined by factors unique to each candidate, including experience, education and the location of the role and considers employees performing substantially similar work.
