Job Description

As a Senior Systems Engineer at Auterion, you will lead the system-level definition, integration and verification of autonomous systems across complex weapon domains. You will work across Auterion’s software platform, Skynode hardware, PX4/APX4 flight stack, onboard applications, sensors, payloads, communications systems and customer platforms.

This role requires strong technical judgement, practical integration experience and the ability to turn ambiguous customer requirements into clear engineering plans. You will operate at the interface between Auterion engineering, customers, partners and delivery teams, ensuring that complex autonomous systems are safe, coherent, testable and deployable.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Define and maintain system architectures for autonomous platforms using Auterion technologies.
  • Translate customer mission needs into system requirements, acceptance criteria and verification strategies.
  • Own requirements traceability across architecture, implementation, integration, testing and deployment.
  • Define operating modes, system behaviours, failure responses and degraded/recovery modes.
  • Lead integration across AuterionOS, PX4/APX4, Skynode, payloads, sensors, radios and third-party systems.
  • Maintain system interfaces across hardware, firmware, software, communications and mission applications.
  • Identify technical risks, interface conflicts and system-level integration issues early.
  • Produce and maintain test plans, verification evidence, acceptance criteria and technical documentation.
  • Analyse system and test data to support integration, troubleshooting and root cause investigation.
  • Support design reviews, customer demonstrations, field trials, deployment activities and acceptance events.
  • Act as a technical interface to customers and partners, supporting solution design, workshops and pre-sales activities.
  • Communicate technical trade-offs clearly across engineering, delivery and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Capture operational feedback and feed lessons into product, engineering and delivery priorities.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Strong understanding of autonomous system architecture, embedded systems, sensors, communications and mission software.
  • Experience with UAV, UGV or USV integration, including hardware/software interfaces and field testing.
  • Familiarity with PX4, MAVLink, embedded Linux, flight controllers, mission computers or robotic middleware.
  • Experience producing requirements, ICDs, CONOPS, test plans, verification evidence and technical documentation.
  • Strong ability to work with incomplete information and turn ambiguity into structured engineering outputs.
  • Experience working with defence, aerospace, safety-critical or regulated environments preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • UK citizenship and eligibility for UK security clearance required.

Benefits

  • Flexible working hours
  • Stock Options
  • Generous holiday allowance
  • Company pension plan
  • Mental health and wellbeing support
  • Regular team social events
