The Senior Systems Engineer (SSE) is accountable for software development, configuration, and enhancement of OSS Assurance Systems including both off the shell product and inhouse built applications. The Systems Engineer is a hands-on software developer role but need to understand the business requirements prior to implementing the required solution, selecting the technology stack in alignment with the Solution Designer / Architects and to agreed roadmap and strategy.

What You’ll Do

  • Management of demands from different parts of Optus network for assurance integration to ensure project timelines are meet.
  • Translating high‑level solution or architecture designs into detailed component‑level designs for software implementations.
  • Managing and guiding vendor teams to ensure deliverables meet Optus standards, including code reviews, requirements clarifications, and owning the final codebase.
  • Leading and mentor small teams of inhouse developers and vendor resources in software development and introduction of new development toolsets to improve efficiency.
  • Own alarms plans and configurations that manage the alarming, auto ticketing, auto restoration of network functions and conduct review with operation and engineering.
  • Providing L3 support for OSS Operations teams, including diagnosing and implementing fixes that require code or configuration changes.
  • Managing source code, build pipelines, and deployment tools .

What You’ll Bring

  • 10–15 years’ IT experience, including strong hands‑on software engineering capability.
  • Experience in TeMIP adapter coding, IBM Netcool configuration, OpenNMS SNMP manager, Nokia Assurance Centre Fault Management + Performance Management, and Nokia UIV modelling will be highly regarded.
  • High‑level proficiency in Java and Groovy, with experience designing and delivering enterprise‑scale systems.
  • Strong database skills across relational, NoSQL and graph databases, including schema design, SQL, and performance tuning.
  • Strong development skill in Apache NiFi and Kafka including flow design and system integration patterns.
  • Strong development skill in Camunda and Drools, including BPMN modelling and workflow automation.
  • Broad technical exposure across infrastructure, OS (Linux/Windows), containers (Docker/Kubernetes), and integration technologies.
  • Proven experience managing vendors or offshore development teams — guiding technical direction, reviewing deliverables, and ensuring quality outcomes.
