Senior Systems Engineer

Are you an experienced Systems Engineer with 5+ years of professional experience who thrives on solving complex technical challenges, driving system design, and delivering reliable, high-quality solutions?

We are looking for a Senior Systems Engineer to join our team and play a key role in designing, developing, and improving mission-critical software systems. You will work across the full solution lifecycle, contributing both strategically and hands-on, while collaborating closely with developers, domain experts, UX engineers, QA, and project stakeholders.

Our primary technologies include:

• Java 17
• Angular (latest version)

While experience with both technologies is an advantage, we are open to candidates with strong expertise in one area and a solid understanding of system design, integration, and software engineering principles.

The job

As a Senior Systems Engineer, your main responsibility will be to design, develop, and maintain robust full-stack software systems, with frontend components in Angular and backend services in Java.

In addition, your key responsibilities will include:

• Designing and implementing scalable, maintainable, and secure system solutions;
• Troubleshooting, optimizing, and resolving complex issues in existing systems and codebases;
• Leading technical design discussions and contributing to architectural decisions;
• Translating operational and user needs into technical solutions in close collaboration with Domain Experts and UX engineers;
• Driving best practices in software quality, system reliability, and maintainability;
• Reviewing designs, code, and technical solutions produced by team members to ensure high standards;
• Supporting integration efforts across devices and environments;
• Mentoring less experienced colleagues and contributing to the team’s technical growth. 

Joining the team

This team develops an application used by soldiers during military exercises, helping bring the strategy defined in higher-level command centers directly to personnel in the field. The application is deployed across vehicles, Android mobile devices and tablets, and it is widely used within NATO operations.

The team currently consists of:

• 2 Developers
• 1 QA Engineer (who has Scrum Master accountability)
• 1 People Manager / Project Manager

As a senior team member, you will have significant influence on technical direction, system quality, and team collaboration.

What we're looking for:

• A technical degree in computer science, electronics, telecommunications, or a related field;
• 5+ years of professional software development experience;
• Strong experience with Java OR Angular (candidates having both will be prioritized)
• A genuine interest in learning and expanding your technical skills;
• Nice to have: Typescript & Gradle;
• Fluent English, both written and spoken;
• The ambition to grow and take on more responsibility;
• A problem-solving mindset;
• A willingness to collaborate, ask questions, and share knowledge;
• Proactive, solution‑oriented team player with a growth mindset, strong planning and stakeholder management skills;
• An interest in writing clean, maintainable, and reliable software;
• Willingness to travel for onboarding and occasional business travel.
