Servebolt is a Norwegian-founded premium managed hosting company built for performance at scale. We process approximately 1.4 billion requests every week and serve visitors from virtually every country in the world. Behind that scale is a Linux-based infrastructure that our engineering team designs, builds, and runs - with no shortcuts and no hand-waving about reliability.
We are a highly technical company built by engineers for engineers. The team spans multiple countries and disciplines - infrastructure, software development, performance engineering, security, and hosting operations. Technical conversations regularly move from Linux internals and kernel behaviour to Go, PHP, distributed systems, and database internals. Everyone is expected to contribute, challenge assumptions, and help shape the platform.
We are looking for a Senior Systems Engineer who thrives at the intersection of infrastructure, software, and operations.
You will help design, build, and run the systems that power thousands of websites - working across Linux, networking, security, automation, and application delivery.
This is not a ticket-resolution role. Over time you become a technical co-owner of the platform - reducing operational concentration risk, distributing knowledge, and driving architectural decisions that improve reliability, security, and performance at scale.
BEEN THERE. DONE IT. WORE THE T-SHIRT.
We are not looking for someone who has read the documentation. We are looking for someone who has been paged at 2am, diagnosed a cascading failure under pressure, and come out the other side knowing exactly what broke and why - who has tuned a database that was quietly killing performance, hardened a server that had been treated as a known risk for too long, and written automation that actually gets used.
If you have only ever worked in environments where someone else made the hard calls, this is not the right role. If you
have made those calls - and you are ready to do it at a company where the infrastructure genuinely matters - keep reading:
– Linux platform engineering
– Production operations and incident response
– Security hardening and patch management
– Web stack performance tuning
– Database operations - MariaDB and PostgreSQL
– Deployment automation and CI/CD
– Platform reliability and observability
– Capacity planning
– On-call participation
– Backup, recovery and business continuity
– Documentation and operational maturity
– Becoming a technical co-owner of the platform
– Linux administration and OS internals
– OS and application patch management
– Security hardening and firewall management
– Networking and DNS
– Web servers - Apache
– Databases - MariaDB and PostgreSQL
– Performance tuning across the full stack
– Incident response and production troubleshooting
– Monitoring and observability tooling
– Deployment automation and CI/CD pipelines
– Release management and change control
– Infrastructure documentation
– Capacity planning
– Datacenter remote operations
– Backup and business continuity

Strong technical fundamentals, confidence in complex infrastructure, and the kind of ownership mentality that makes a platform better over time. Concretely:
– Communicates clearly - written and verbal, across technical and non-technical contexts
– Works methodically - diagnoses before acting, documents after resolving
– Takes ownership - follows things through, does not drop the ball
– Comfortable operating production systems responsibly - understands the cost of mistakes
– Can balance reliability, security, and performance - knows when to push and when to hold
– Competitive salary based on experience and capability
– Flexible remote working within Europe
– A highly technical environment where engineering excellence is the standard
– Real ownership and influence over systems, architecture, and operational practices
– Working alongside experienced engineers across infrastructure, software, performance, and security
– Exposure to large-scale environments and genuinely difficult technical problems
– Support for professional growth and technical development
We service many thousands of websites and process approximately 1.4 billion requests every week. This is a senior role with significant responsibility and autonomy. If you are the kind of engineer who takes that seriously - we would like to hear from you.
