Our Purpose

We are looking for a Senior Systems Engineer with a background in medical device design and development to join our Interventional Cardiology Therapies unit. This role focuses on the development of next generation systems for integrated electro-mechanical devices. In this role, you will work with our research and development teams to identify opportunities to improve device design to meet new and expanding customer needs.

Interventional Cardiology Therapies (ICT) are a vital component of the Medtronic portfolio. We are seeking to solve unmet needs in the rapidly growing field of complex Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI), Renal denervation (RDN) and structural heart therapies.

A Day in The Life Of:

Responsibilities may include the following:

  • Development and optimisation of user needs, business needs, use cases, requirements, and system architectures.

  • Complete data analysis to optimize and select concepts to ensure the solution fulfils customer needs, performance and functional requirements.

  • Develop and improve bench top test environments to ensure concepts are tested in the right use conditions and to the specified requirements.

  • Complete user evaluations in representative test environments or in formative evaluations to gain insightful feedback on new concepts and designs.

  • Help decision-making within the team to by creating prioritised design goals and system performance attributes

  • Identify and mitigate technical risks, product hazards, and failure modes.

  • Assist in the development of predictive modelling and simulation tools so that they can be used to assess device performance and function.

  • Plan and oversee system and sub-system integrations to evaluate concepts versus new/updated requirements.

  • Work with cross-functional teams to ensure design solutions meet the necessary quality, regulator and manufacturing standard

Key Skills & Experience

  • Minimum NFQ Level 8 Bachelors’ degree in an Engineering or Science Discipline and 4+ years of relevant experience or an advanced degree and 2+ years of relevant experience.

  • Experience in Systems Engineering as related to stakeholder needs definition, creation of use case workflows, requirements definition and decomposition, functional architecture, system design, and safety risk management.

  • Experience planning and conducting user evaluations of product concepts, integration testing, analysing data, documenting methods and results, and presenting design recommendations to design teams.

  • Ability to quickly understand complex system behaviours, engineering problems, technical and architectural constraints.

  • Ability to provide creativity while solving complex problems without known solutions, ability to make requirements driven trade-offs

  • Ability to quickly reduce concepts into requirements and specifications

  • Excellent verbal and written and communication skills with an aptitude for convincing others, both internally and externally, of the value of their ideas.
