Job Description

ASRC Federal, InuTeq proudly supports NASA's High Performance Computing Services program in Mountain View, CA at the Ames Research Center. Make a DIFFERENCE on a program that supports 4 On-site Supercomputers 18,000+ nodes, 17+ combined petaflop supercomputer systems. Our program provides High Performance Computing services throughout the HPC lifecycle for computational requirements, architecture, acquisition, and operations to federal government customers. We have an immediate position for a Senior Linux Systems Administrator/DevOps Engineer to join our Infrastructure team in Mountain View. US Citizenship is required. This role supports the hundreds of infrastructure systems that support HPC operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain impeccable customer relations with a highly scientific and technical user base
  • Day to day operations of Linux systems and HCI clusters as part of a Tier 3 team
  • Tier 3 operational escalation of supported services and documentation
  • Maintain System in a PaaS Platforms-as-a-Service environment
  • Develop and Manage for the Ansible/RHEL provisioning environment
  • Proactively monitor, analyze and correct system issues
  • System performance analysis and tuning
  • Inter-team cooperation to continually develop implement DevOps strategy appropriate for the program
  • Serve as a senior escalation point; responsible for service ownership and project work
  • Lead projects using program defined project management best practices overseen by the Site Lead, Project Coordinator, and Infrastructure Systems Manager
  • Maintain systems with appropriate Service Level Agreements ranging from business hours, best-effort after-hours, and minimally designated 24x7 systems
  • Ensure all systems meet stringent NASA security requirements
  • Create/maintain documentation and curate solutions repository to include, but not limited to internal wikis and knowledgebases
  • Co-own Tier 2 services and provide direct guidance and oversight to services such as Linux Workstation management, Mac management and seamless end-to-end integration with NASA agency services and HPC program resources
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or related field or 5 years of equivalent experience related to operational systems support in a Linux heavy environment
  • At least 5 years of related industry experience (ie. help desk, network team, software development, etc.) in addition to the above
  • Ability and eagerness to quantify, analyze and resolve complex system issues
  • 5+ years demonstrated competency of provisioning and configuration management of medium size Linux environments using tools such as RHEL Satellite and Ansible
  • Experience with VMware administration and VMs; experience with computer hardware
  • Ability to work with system configuration management tools (e.g. Puppet, Ansible) and revision control software such as Git
  • Demonstrated competency of provisioning and configuration management of medium size Linux environments using tools such as RHEL Satellite and Ansible
  • Demonstrated experience with scripting languages such as Bash Shell, Python, etc.
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting skills in a complex environment beyond systems from networks to other dependent system(s)
  • Excellent customer service skills and attention to detail supporting hundreds of scientific users
  • Ability to close a high volume of tickets and with thorough documentation and pattern recognition to see recurring issues that need process or system change
  • US citizenship is required for a NASA Public Trust Clearance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with OpenShift or other orchestration platforms
  • Previous experience in support of HPC environments and complex scientific computing centers
  • Knowledge of VMware adjacent technologies, with previous experience in migrating from VMware
  • Experience with BMC products, their upgrade paths and data migration along those upgrade paths
