ASRC Federal Advanced Research LLC (AFAR) is seeking a Senior System Engineer to join our Voice Communication System (VCS) team that supports the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) at the William J. Hughes Technical Center for Advanced Aerospace (WJHTCAA) in Egg Harbor Township, NJ.

VCS is the FAA’s effort to replace outdated analog Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) voice switches with modern, Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) enabled systems across Air Traffic Control (ATC) facilities nationwide.

The candidate will work within a system engineering team to collaboratively support the VCS program. The team will collectively be responsible for overseeing integration and deployment of network management software; interfacing with 3rd party data collection stream(s); establishing workflows to automate deployment, configuration, and monitoring of hardware/software systems; configuration, remote management, and troubleshooting of test/lab equipment, including root cause analysis; working with software and hardware development teams for requirements, integration, testing activities.

Citizenship/Permanent Residency Requirement
All candidates must have the following to pass the Federal Background Investigation and obtain the FAA Public Trust security clearance.
• Be a US Citizen, have a US Green Card, or a Non-immigrant Work Authorization (VISA).
• Has resided in the US for three (3) consecutive years.
• The company is unable to sponsor candidates at this time.
• RealID Driver’s License/ID or current US Passport.

Relocation Requirement
Candidate must reside or be willing to relocate within a commutable distance to Egg Harbor Township, NJ.

Education & Experience Requirement
All non-US Degrees must have a US Equivalency Certificate provided by the candidate.
• Bachelor of Science in Information Technology, Information System Electrical Engineering/Computer Science or in another technical field, such as Physics, Aerospace, Chemistry, or Mathematics.
• Experience with NAS facilities, systems, and equipment is highly desirable.
• Five (5) to nine (9) years of related work experience.

Required Skills
• Knowledge/experience in:
◦ Operating Systems (RHEL, Windows).
◦ Scripting languages (e.g., Bash, PowerShell, Perl, Python).
◦ Network analysis tools (Wireshark, Stablenet).
◦ System monitoring tools (Zabbix, SNMP).
◦ Experience in routing and networking technologies.
• Ability to:
◦ Work independently, as well as a team, in an agile environment.
◦ Research, troubleshoot and problem solve quickly.
◦ Communicate effectively through verbal and written communication with high organization.
◦ Implement and apply best-practice system engineering concepts.
Preferred Skills
• Knowledge/experience in:
◦ Log aggregation and reporting (ELK/Opensearch, Splunk).
◦ System security management and intrusion detection tools (IdM, SSL, IPSec/VPN, SELinux, AIDE).
◦ Telecommunications protocols (SIP/RTP, ED-137).
◦ Virtualization (ESXi, KVM, Red Hat Virtualization).
◦ Data replication and storage (DBRD, NAS/SAN).
Essential Daily Job Duties
• Hands-on integration of software and hardware components including software installation and configuration, network configuration, and telecommunications hardware integration.
• Implements and validates IT system solutions for networking, computing, and our propriety communications equipment including conceptional, functional, and physical views.
• Creates and reviews technical documentation supporting production build (e.g., rack layouts, cable plans, system layouts, system configuration, build of materials, build plans/instructions).
• Collaborates with internal teams (e.g., program management, hardware & software development, solution architects, test engineering, field engineering, production) for total project success.
• Supports system production team to troubleshoot and solve production issues.
• Analyzes site and contract information to determine, recommend, and plan layout for type of computers and peripheral equipment, or modifications to existing equipment and systems that will provide capability for proposed project or work load, efficient operation, and effective use of allotted space.
• Ensures adherence to industry standards, regulations, and best practices.
• May participate in/develop:
◦ Test procedures to verify system functionally and perform system debug
◦ Factory acceptance tests, site acceptance tests, failure location and analysis.
◦ Remote system monitoring, maintenance, and tier 2 on call support.
◦ On-site installations, integration, testing and maintenance activities.
Work Environment
• Full-time position with a standard flexible work schedule; occasional nights or weekend may be required.
• Occasional travel (~ 5 - 10%).
• Cubicle environment.
