Position Senior System Administrator – Secure Messaging

Project and Service Environment
The position is part of a secure messaging operations team responsible for providing and operating the backend infrastructure of a Matrix protocol-based enterprise messenger platform.
The team ensures the stable, secure, and highly available operation of the messaging environment. Its responsibilities include maintaining backend components, ensuring the availability of functions and interfaces, performing cross-functional incident analysis, and providing second-level support.
A current focus of the team is the automation of operational processes and the improvement of root-cause analysis during live operations.
Responsibilities
The Senior System Administrator will be responsible for:
- Installing, configuring, commissioning, administering, and monitoring the secure messaging infrastructure.
- Operating the infrastructure in accordance with current security requirements and internal operational standards.
- Administering Red Hat-based Linux servers.
- Performing advanced troubleshooting and root-cause analysis in live production environments.
- Monitoring the availability, performance, capacity, and threshold values of IT services and infrastructure resources.
- Taking corrective action in the event of performance bottlenecks or availability issues.
- Supporting the achievement of agreed service levels and operational targets.
- Updating, maintaining, and improving technical and operational documentation.
- Automating recurring operational processes using technologies such as Ansible, Bash, and PowerShell.
- Implementing approved infrastructure changes within established change and release management processes.
- Following standard operating procedures during releases, deployments, and configuration changes.
- Recording infrastructure changes in the relevant configuration management databases.
- Analysing and resolving incidents and service requests escalated by first-level support.
- Performing detailed remote troubleshooting to identify underlying technical causes.
- Communicating with affected users or stakeholders when further information or coordination is required.
- Documenting solutions and troubleshooting procedures in the knowledge base.
- Supporting continuous improvement of operational procedures, automation workflows, and incident analysis methods.
- Working with infrastructure, network, security, application, and support teams to resolve cross-functional technical issues.
Required Qualifications
The candidate should have:
- Successfully completed vocational training or a university degree in information technology, computer science, system integration, or a comparable discipline.
- Alternatively, at least five years of relevant professional experience supported by suitable technical qualifications.
- A valid IT service management certification at ITIL Foundation level.
- A valid Linux administration certification at LPIC-1 level or higher.
- Relevant certificates must be valid at the time of application.
- Equivalent evidence may be accepted where formal certificates cannot be provided, provided that equivalence can be demonstrated.
Required Professional Experience
The candidate must have:
- At least five years of professional experience in system administration.
- At least five years of substantial practical experience with Linux systems and network technologies.
- At least two years of practical experience administering Matrix-based messenger platforms.
- At least two years of practical experience with infrastructure and operations automation using Ansible, Bash, PowerShell, or comparable tools.
- Experience administering Red Hat or comparable enterprise Linux environments.
- Experience operating business-critical or security-sensitive backend services.
- Experience with availability, performance, capacity, and service-level monitoring.
- Experience with incident, problem, change, release, and configuration management.
- Experience handling second-level support tickets and complex technical escalations.
- Experience maintaining configuration data, technical documentation, and knowledge base articles.
- Experience coordinating technical issues across infrastructure, network, security, application, and support teams.
The required experience should represent continuous, repeated, and substantial work in the relevant subject area rather than isolated or occasional assignments.

Language Requirements
- German C1 according to CEFR

Travel and Working Model
- Willingness to travel for up to approximately 10% of working time is required.
- Travel may be undertaken by private car, rental car, train, or other public transport.
- The expected remote-working proportion is approximately 50–75%, depending on operational requirements.
- On-site presence may be required for commissioning, troubleshooting, releases, security-related activities, workshops, or team coordination.
