Job Description

This role supports McDermott’s Global Sustainability & Governance function by leading and supporting the implementation of the company’s Human Rights Due Diligence (HRDD) Programme, SA8000 certification readiness and maintenance, and broader social accountability and labour rights management systems.

The role provides technical expertise across human rights risk management, responsible supply chains, worker welfare, and international labour standards, ensuring alignment with client requirements, national legislation, and international frameworks such as the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs), ILO conventions, OECD Due Diligence Guidance, IFC Performance Standards, and SA8000.

The position supports corporate initiatives, project execution, fabrication yards, and supply chain partners globally, enabling consistent and auditable implementation of human rights commitments across McDermott operations.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

Human Rights Due Diligence Programme

  • Support the implementation and continuous improvement of McDermott’s Human Rights Due Diligence (HRDD) framework across corporate functions, projects, and supply chains

  • Conduct human rights risk assessments covering operations, suppliers, and project locations

  • Support development and maintenance of human rights policies, procedures, and implementation tools aligned with the UN Guiding Principles

  • Support integration of human rights risk management into project lifecycle processes (bid, FEED, EPC execution)

  • Monitor emerging global human rights legislation and reporting frameworks including Modern Slavery, CSRD, and supply chain due diligence regulations

SA8000 Certification Implementation

  • Support SA8000 certification readiness, implementation, and maintenance across McDermott entities

  • Assist in establishing and maintaining Social Accountability Management Systems (SAMS) aligned with SA8000 requirements

  • Support internal assessments, corrective action management, and audit preparation for SA8000 certification

  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders to ensure compliance with the nine SA8000 performance elements, including worker representation, grievance mechanisms, and labour conditions monitoring

  • Support post-certification surveillance audits and continuous improvement initiatives

Responsible Supply Chain & Labour Rights

  • Support implementation of human rights due diligence across suppliers and subcontractors, including labour rights risk screening and supplier engagement

  • Assist Supply Chain teams in integrating human rights and labour standards into supplier codes of conduct, contracts, and monitoring processes

  • Support supplier assessments, corrective action plans, and improvement programmes related to forced labour, working conditions, and worker welfare

Social Performance & Worker Engagement

  • Support implementation of worker grievance mechanisms and worker voice initiatives across projects and operations

  • Assist in strengthening worker representation structures, social dialogue, and worker engagement processes

  • Support monitoring of working conditions, labour rights risks, and remediation processes where issues are identified

Corporate Advisory & Integration

  • Provide technical advisory support to projects, fabrication yards, vessels, and corporate functions on human rights compliance and best practice

  • Support integration of human rights considerations into project sustainability plans, national content strategies, and social investment programmes

  • Develop and maintain corporate guidance documents, risk assessment tools, and implementation templates

Training & Awareness

  • Develop and deliver training and awareness programmes on human rights, labour standards, and responsible supply chains

  • Support capacity building across project teams, procurement functions, and suppliers

Reporting & Assurance

  • Support human rights data collection and reporting for corporate sustainability disclosures and client reporting requirements

  • Support audit readiness, assurance processes, and documentation management related to human rights and SA8000 compliance

Essential Qualifications and Education:

  • Minimum 6–8 years of experience in human rights, social sustainability, or responsible supply chains within energy, infrastructure, engineering, or industrial sectors.

  • Demonstrated experience implementing Human Rights Due Diligence frameworks aligned with the UN Guiding Principles.

  • Experience supporting or implementing SA8000, ISO management systems, or labour rights compliance programmes.

  • Experience conducting human rights risk assessments, supplier assessments, or social audits.

  • Familiarity with international frameworks such as:

  • UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights

  • ILO Core Conventions

  • OECD Due Diligence Guidance

  • IFC Performance Standards

  • SA8000 Social Accountability Standard

Additional Preferred Experience

  • Experience working with EPC contractors, fabrication yards, or global supply chains.

  • Experience supporting third-party social audits or certification programmes.

  • Experience engaging with clients, regulators, and NGOs on labour and human rights matters.
