The Senior Sustainability Engineer will lead the design, deployment, and continuous improvement of the company’s environmental sustainability strategy. This role bridges functional/ site-level execution with enterprise strategy, collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify environmental impact reduction initiatives that are value-add, practical and technically sound, scalable, and aligned with corporate commitments and regulatory requirements. The role will influence a culture of sustainability and continuous improvement across the company through awareness campaigns and proactive workforce engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and support environmental impact reduction strategies across company sites.

  • Translate corporate sustainability goals into practical, scalable initiatives aligned with business growth and regulatory requirements.

  • Act as a technical expert and trusted advisor on sustainability and environmental topics.

  • Lead and support sustainability projects (e.g. energy efficiency, resource optimisation, waste reduction, equipment upgrades).

  • Embed sustainability principles into capital projects, technology transfers, and day-to-day operations, supported by effective change management.

  • Establish standardised processes for sustainability data collection, KPI tracking, reporting, and trend analysis.

  • Conduct environmental impact and carbon footprint assessments for products and processes.

  • Identify risks, opportunities, and stakeholder value through structured analysis and problem solving.

  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, permits, and corporate EHS standards.

  • Coach and influence leaders and teams to build shared ownership and a culture of environmental sustainability and continuous improvement.

Required Qualifications

  • 7–10 years’ experience in sustainability, environmental or energy engineering, ideally in biopharmaceutical or regulated manufacturing environments.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Sustainability, or related technical field.

  • Experience leading multi‑site sustainability and/ or energy efficiency initiatives.

  • Advanced analytical skills and experience working with environmental data.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding of biopharma manufacturing, laboratory, and R&D operations.

  • Certification in Sustainability or Environmental/Energy Engineering.

  • Experience with carbon accounting, lifecycle assessment (LCA), and science-based targets.

  • Knowledge of ISO 14001, ISO 50001, or similar management systems.

  • Training in project management, change management, or operational excellence.

Working Conditions

  • Hybrid role with a minimum of three days on site.

  • Travel required (approximately 30 - 40%).

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $137,000 to $158,000. In addition, this position is eligible for an annual performance pay bonus.
