We are seeking a highly experienced and forward-thinking Survey Manager to lead the surveying strategy and delivery across Lot 2. This is a key role for the project, with responsibility for technical leadership, assurance, innovation, and stakeholder collaboration on one of the UK’s biggest infrastructure programmes.

You will oversee and direct survey operations from project initiation through to final handover, ensuring technical excellence, compliance, and digital innovation throughout. This is a unique opportunity to help shape national surveying practices, drive the adoption of advanced digital construction methods, and mentor the next generation of survey professionals in a high-profile, industry-defining environment.

Your team

  • You will initially be based out of the HS2 project team office near Euston Station in London, with a requirement to work from other project offices in Buckinghamshire later on as the project develops

  • Plan and coordinate survey works across all Lots, managing key interfaces to ensure programme delivery.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Act as the primary technical interface for Ferrovial BAM Rail Systems (FBRS) with HS2 Ltd, design teams, JV partners, local authorities, and other stakeholders.
  • Provide expert technical advice, insight on risk, and accurate reporting to internal leadership and external partners.

Innovation & Development

  • Drive innovation in digital construction, automation, survey technologies, and track system methodologies.
  • Champion lean surveying principles and integrated data workflows across the full project lifecycle.

Operational Leadership

  • Guide and support surveying teams with control, monitoring, setting out, and verification activities.
  • Ensure the timely, cost-effective delivery of high-quality survey outputs to support both design and construction.

Professional Development & Industry Engagement

  • Mentor teams in surveying, site engineering, and digital workflows across the programme.
  • Promote professional accreditation (e.g. CICES, RICS) and lead training, development, and sponsorship initiatives.
  • Represent the organisation at industry events, conferences, and technical forums to promote knowledge-sharing and best practice.

What do you bring to the role?

Essential Experience

  • Extensive senior-level experience in engineering surveying on major civil infrastructure programmes including development of Survey Control Network
  • Experience in delivering high-speed rail or slab track works.
  • Leadership experience within a Tier 1 contractor or major JV

  • Advanced knowledge of engineering surveying practices, digital workflows, and relevant technical standards.

Knowledge

  • Deep understanding of HS2 technical requirements, Network Rail standards, and UK rail infrastructure regulations.
  • Awareness of the commercial, legal, and technological factors influencing major infrastructure delivery.

What’s in it for you?
