T HE OPPORTUNITY Harvard Bioscience is currently seeking a qualified individual will routinely perform surgical procedures using DSI implantable telemetry devices. They will be involved in customer support revenue generating projects and surgical training of DSI devices. They will also participate in the development of new products and surgical techniques.

Essential Job Functions

  • Contribute to Surgical Services Revenue:
  1. Perform simple to complex small animal surgeries
  2. Provide in house hands-on surgical training for DSI customers
  3. Perform surgeries for pre-implanted small animals at DSI for shipment to the customer

  • Provide surgical support for product development:
    1. Performing survival and acute surgery on small animals
    2. Participate in cross-functional teams for new products and product refinements
    3. Conduct chronic testing and data collection on animals
    4. Maintain detailed records of animal implants and explants
    5. Help create and maintain surgical manuals, tech notes, and other applicable materials

  • Provide surgical support to customers and sales reps:
    1. Assist sales representatives in determining the appropriate products for customers
    2. Work with Technical Support to assist customers with surgical related issues

  • Provide laboratory support of animals:
    1. Monitor the health and welfare of all animals following applicable guidelines for care and use of laboratory animals, shared weekend and holiday health checks
    2. Provide peri and post-operative animal care duties
    3. Contribute to maintaining the laboratory through stocking and ordering lab supplies, and completing routine cleaning and maintenance tasks.
    4. Shared animal husbandry duties, including cage changes and cleaning.

  • Continued Improvement to Surgical Service internal documentation
    1. Assist with writing process documentation
    2. Assist with modification and maintenance with surgical database
    3. Maintain internal records and compliance documentation

    Surgical experience with DSI telemetry.

    Large animal surgical experience

    Education and Experience and/or equivalent

    High School or equivalent, and a minimum of three years of relevant experience with small laboratory animals. Certification (SRT or SRS) through the Academy of Surgical Research is required or willingness to obtain upon hire.

    Physical demands

    Ability to perform microscopic surgery, sitting, and standing for the majority of the day.

    Additional Information

    Other Duties: Increase proficiency in the field and education by attending additional training for other professional development, i.e. novel surgical techniques, animal care, and welfare, etc. Ensure continuing education credits are obtained to maintain certifications, i.e. ASR certifications.
