Position Summary
The Senior Superintendent is responsible for leading onsite construction operations on large-scale commercial projects, ensuring safe execution, high-quality workmanship, and adherence to schedule and budget commitments. This role provides day-to-day leadership of field teams and subcontractors, oversees site logistics and inspections, and drives project delivery from mobilization through closeout.
Working in close partnership with Project Management, Safety, and Operations, the Senior Superintendent serves as the primary onsite leader, reinforcing Roncelli’s standards for safety, quality, productivity, and professionalism while proactively resolving issues that impact project success.
Travel Expectations: This is an onsite, field-based position requiring daily presence at assigned project sites. Travel to other project locations may be required based on assignment, along with occasional travel to Roncelli’s headquarters in Sterling Heights, Michigan.

Role and Key Responsibilities
Field Leadership & Project Execution
- Lead all onsite construction activities with a primary focus on safety, quality, schedule, and productivity.
- Serve as the primary onsite representative for Roncelli, subcontractors, inspectors, and client partners.
- Plan and manage daily field operations, manpower, site logistics, and sequencing of work.
- Drive execution of approved construction plans, drawings, specifications, and contract requirements.
- Identify execution risks, resolve field challenges, and escalate critical issues as needed.
Safety & Compliance
- Enforce compliance with Roncelli, Client, and MIOSHA safety requirements in partnership with the Safety Department.
- Promote a strong jobsite safety culture through daily engagement, training, and accountability.
- Participate in incident response, reporting, and corrective action planning when required.
Quality Control & Inspections
- Ensure work is completed in accordance with contract documents, drawings, specifications, and applicable codes.
- Implement proactive quality control processes to prevent rework and maintain project standards.
- Coordinate inspections with authorities, testing agencies, and quality representatives.
Scheduling, Planning & Reporting
- Develop and maintain short-interval and 3-week lookahead schedules aligned with the master project schedule.
- Track daily progress, manpower, and production to ensure schedule commitments are met.
- Lead weekly progress meetings and contribute to schedule updates and recovery planning.
- Oversee daily reporting, documentation, and field recordkeeping for internal and client use.
Cost Awareness & Change Management
- Monitor field productivity, labor utilization, material usage, and installed quantities.
- Support tracking and documentation of time-and-material and unit-priced work.
- Partner with Project Management to identify change impacts, cost risks, and schedule implications.
- Assist with change order documentation, approvals, and execution support.
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, mentor, and support Assistant Superintendents, Foremen, and field staff.
- Promote accountability, collaboration, and professional growth within field teams.
- Reinforce Roncelli values, expectations, and performance standards across the jobsite.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Coordinate closely with Project Management, Estimating, Safety, Accounting, and Self-Perform teams.
- Support preconstruction planning, subcontractor selection, and project handoff activities.
- Participate in closeout, punch list execution, turnover, and lessons learned.

QualificationsSkills and Knowledge
- Deep knowledge of construction means and methods across civil, structural, architectural, MEP, and low-voltage trades.
- Strong ability to interpret drawings, specifications, schedules, and contract requirements.
- Proven experience leading large, complex commercial construction projects from mobilization through closeout.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and conflict resolution skills in a field environment.
- Strong understanding of safety regulations, labor agreements, quality standards, and contractual compliance.
- Skilled in scheduling, sequencing, short-interval planning, and field productivity tracking.
- Proficient in Procore, Microsoft Office Suite, and construction management platforms.
- Ability to identify problems, develop solutions, and drive accountability across subcontractors and field teams.

Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred; equivalent experience acceptable.

Experience: Minimum 15 years of experience as a Superintendent on commercial or industrial construction projects.
- Certifications: OSHA 30 required; MUST, Certified Storm Water Operator, and First Aid & CPR preferred.
- Screening Requirements: Pre-employment and annual drug testing required; background check, including driving record, as required by client.
- Valid Drivers License Required.
Working Environment and Physical Requirements
This position primarily operates on active construction jobsites and is exposed to moving mechanical parts, elevated work areas, outdoor weather conditions, noise, dust, and other construction-related hazards. The role requires climbing stairs and ladders, navigating unfinished structures, and working safely around active equipment while wearing required PPE. The employee must be able to stand, walk, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, and occasionally lift up to 75 pounds. Travel between project sites may be required. Compliance with all company and jobsite safety policies is mandatory. Required personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn, and strict infection control, safety, and hospital policies must be followed.
