We are seeking a Senior Substation R&C Engineer who will be responsible for applying diversified knowledge of engineering, architecture, surveying, or scientific principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields. Work requires the use of advanced techniques and the modification and extension of theories, precepts, and practices of specialized fields, related sciences, and/or disciplines. May lead one large project or a number of small projects, usually coordinating the work of less experienced engineers, technical assistants, and drafters. This position will work on projects directly associated with FirstEnergy, one of ISG’s trusted and longstanding client partners.

Essential Duties

  • Ensures accurate and compliant designs, including one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, AC and DC schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, BOMs, Equipment Lists, etc. for high voltage substations. The ability to look up, understand, assist, and order the appropriate materials needed for each design.
  • Verifies adherence to client, utility, and regulatory standards (e.g., IEEE, NESC).
  • Addresses complex technical challenges, such as optimizing schemes or troubleshooting design issues.
  • Supports project schedules to meet milestones and deliverables.
  • Works closely with other disciplines (substation physical, civil/structural) and external stakeholders (clients, utilities).
  • Reviews and approves drawings, calculations, and technical reports.
  • Mentors junior engineers and designers, reviewing their work and providing constructive feedback.
  • Conducts training sessions and share best practices.
  • Fosters a collaborative and positive work environment.
  • Serves as the main technical point of contact for clients, addressing inquiries and presenting solutions.
  • Delivers high-quality designs that meet client expectations and industry standards.
  • Recommends and implements process improvements to enhance design efficiency and accuracy.
  • Stays current with industry advancements, standards, and technologies.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree with specialization in the electrical discipline required.
  • 8+ years of previous consulting or substation engineering/design experience required.
  • Ohio PE License preferred. May be working towards certification.
  • Valid Drivers’ License required.
