Senior Substation Engineer

Auckland or Wellington

Our New Zealand Energy team is growing in response to increased investment in transmission, distribution, renewables and grid resilience. We are looking for a Senior Substation Engineer to join our Auckland office and support the delivery of complex substation projects across Aotearoa and the wider Asia‑Pacific region.

Your role

You will be a key technical contributor within our substation and wider electrical engineering team, supporting the planning, design and delivery of high‑voltage substations and associated infrastructure.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Primary and / or secondary design of HV substations, including layout, equipment selection and integration
  • Supporting projects across feasibility, concept, detailed design and construction phases
  • Working closely with civil, transmission, protection and multidisciplinary teams
  • Liaising with clients, network owners, contractors and suppliers
  • Reviewing technical documentation and supporting design assurance activities
  • Assisting with bids and proposals for energy and grid projects
  • Mentoring and supporting early‑career engineers

About you

You will bring:

  • A degree in electrical engineering (or equivalent)
  • 5-10 years of experience in substation design within a consultancy, utility or contractor environment
  • Understanding of HV equipment, substations layouts and interfaces
  • Familiarity with New Zealand and Australian standards and utility requirements
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • A collaborative, solutions‑focused approach
  • Eligibility to work in New Zealand

Experience with Transpower or distribution network projects would be an advantage.
