Role Purpose

The Senior Subsea Engineer is a senior technical role within Mubadala Energy Indonesia's Drilling and Well Services Department, providing dedicated internal expertise to support the planning, engineering, execution, and management of subsea development and deepwater well delivery activities.

The position will play a critical role in supporting Mubadala Energy Indonesia's offshore development programs, particularly through integration of drilling, completion, subsea production systems (SPS), and offshore execution activities to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable delivery of subsea wells.

This role is expected to provide 100% dedicated subsea engineering competency within the Drilling and Well Services function and act as the focal point for subsea engineering activities across project phases—from engineering studies and planning through offshore execution and operational readiness.

A key focus area of this position is supporting the South Andaman drilling development program, including engineering planning, SPS management, offshore preparation, equipment readiness, and execution support for drilling, completion, and well testing campaigns.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following : 

  • Provide dedicated subsea engineering support to the Drilling and Well Services team for offshore development activities.
  • Lead engineering planning and preparation for subsea well construction and deepwater drilling campaigns.
  • Develop and review drilling, well completion, and well testing programs.
  • Support engineering studies and technical evaluations to optimize operational delivery.
  • Manage subsea production systems (SPS), including preparation, mobilization, installation, and commissioning activities.
  • Coordinate subsea equipment readiness including Horizontal Trees, IWOCS, Landing Strings, wellheads, and completion equipment.
  • Support contractor and service provider management throughout engineering and execution phases.
  • Coordinate equipment and material ordering, logistics, receiving inspections, and QA/QC activities.
  • Support vessel and MODU modification activities and implementation of SPS handling procedures.
  • Participate in offshore execution, troubleshooting, and operational decision-making.
  • Ensure compliance with HSE requirements, company standards, and regulatory obligations.
  • Support risk assessments, HAZID, HAZOP, Management of Change (MOC), and operational assurance processes.
  • Prepare technical reports and provide regular updates to management and project stakeholders.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Minimum Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Offshore Engineering, Marine Engineering, or other relevant engineering disciplines.
  • Drilling, subsea, or offshore engineering background is preferred.
  • Master's degree in a related discipline is preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum 15 years of relevant experience within the oil and gas industry.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in deepwater subsea well construction and operations.
  • Proven experience supporting offshore drilling, completion, and subsea development projects.
  • Experience managing subsea production systems and offshore equipment.
  • Experience supporting vessel and MODU operational readiness activities.
  • Experience working within integrated operator–contractor execution environments.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of deepwater drilling and subsea operations.
  • Experience with Horizontal Trees, IWOCS, and Landing String systems.
  • Knowledge of Subsea Production Systems (SPS) and offshore well delivery.
  • Understanding of drilling, completion, and well testing operations.
  • Knowledge of offshore vessel and MODU operations.
  • Strong project planning and execution capability.
  • Familiarity with QA/QC requirements and equipment assurance processes.
  • Strong contractor and stakeholder management skills.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary and multicultural environments.
