Primary Responsibilities

  • Apply analytical methods, finite element models, simulations, and other engineering tools to develop models, perform structural and dynamic analyses, conduct calculations, reduce test data, and correlate results.
  • Partner closely with design and manufacturing teams to deliver high-performance structures that meet demanding requirements for performance, manufacturability, and schedule.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited university.
  • Possess 8–12 years of relevant industry experience with a bachelor’s degree, or 6–10 years with a master’s degree.
  • Demonstrated experience with any of the commercial finite element analysis tools (e.g. FEMAP/NX NASTRAN, PATRAN/MSC NASTRAN, ANSYS, Abaqus, etc.).
  • Strong technical writing, presentation, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Proven ability to thrive in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary engineering environment.
  • Capable of working as part of a larger analysis team or working as the sole analyst on a project.
  • U.S. citizenship and a current Final Secret Clearance—or eligibility to obtain and maintain one.
  • Residence in, or willingness to relocate to, the Huntsville, Alabama area.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited university with a 3.5 or higher GPA.
  • Advanced expertise in
    • Linear and nonlinear contact FEA
    • Application of nonlinear material properties to both FEA and hand calculations
    • Integrated multi-physics analysis
    • Bolted joint and weld analysis
    • Dynamics analysis (modal, response spectrum, shock, vibration)
    • Bolted joint and weld analysis
    • Fatigue analysis
    • Composite materials analysis
  • Thermal analysis

Pay Range:

Pay Range $107,900.00 - $195,050.00

The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
