To provide transport planning policy advice, direction, and actions and research expertise for Council in respect to strategic transport planning and implementation of transport network plans, with guidance.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Assist in the review and preparation of transport network plan(s) for the municipality to guide Council’s planning, advocacy and prioritisation of investment in infrastructure for walking, cycling, public transport, cars and other vehicles.
  • Provide advice, in conjunction with departments across the City Planning and Places Division on planning applications and development proposals in the activity centres and growth areas of the municipality having regard to approved Precinct Structure Plans, Development Plans and Council standards and guidelines.
  • Provide advice on strategic transport planning considerations and requirements to inform the review and development of existing and new Council planning documents, including plans for activity centres, urban renewal areas and growth areas.
  • Liaise with statutory transport authorities and transport agencies to secure support for Council strategic transport planning and infrastructure priorities, with guidance.
  • Investigate and provide advice on the transport implications of proposed Planning Scheme Amendments, whether generated by members of the public or from Council/State Government.
  • Adopt a collaborative approach with internal and external stakeholders and the ability to be pragmatic in recognition of competing priorities.
  • Assist Council’s Infrastructure and Assets Division on the preparation and implementation of traffic and parking management policies, such as the Local Area Traffic Management (LATM) studies to address traffic and parking issues.

The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role:

  • Knowledge of relevant Government policy and the role of Local, State and Federal Governments in the strategic transport and land planning.
  • Knowledge of transport planning issues and trends, and the principles and methodologies to address and manage these.
  • Experience in assessing the transport network and transport infrastructure impacts of planning applications and proposals for new development.
  • Experience in identifying and advising on strategic transport planning considerations and transport infrastructure requirements for areas identified for new development.
  • Experience of reviewing and identifying transport network improvements to accommodate future development.
  • Ability to utilise GIS and other systems and utilise data to prepare maps and plans for analysis and communication purposes.

Required Certifications & Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualifications in transport planning, urban planning or related fields.
  • Current driver’s license.
