Job Description

At GE Vernova, we are supporting customers around the world extend the life, improve the efficiency and maximize the performance of critical power generation assets as part of the global energy transition.

We are currently looking for an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Steam Turbine Engineering team. This is a highly technical engineering role focused primarily on retrofit engineering, customer-driven modifications, product upgrades and lifetime extension solutions for GE Vernova’s installed steam turbine fleet globally.

This opportunity is ideal for engineers who enjoy solving complex mechanical design challenges, particularly when adapting new engineering solutions to existing equipment already operating in the field. The role combines strong CAD design ownership with real engineering problem-solving, requiring both technical creativity and the ability to develop solutions that fit complex legacy systems already installed at customer sites.

While the position is primarily design-office based, you will also collaborate closely with manufacturing teams and occasionally visit factories or customer sites to better understand product integration and execution requirements.

As part of the Steam Turbine Engineering team, you will support engineering activities mainly related to OTR support, customer-specific engineering requests, retrofit programs, turbine upgrades and product life extension initiatives.

A significant part of the work involves adapting or redesigning existing steam turbine components to meet new operational requirements, improve product performance or extend asset lifetime.

This is a role for engineers who enjoy solving technically complex problems where new design solutions must integrate successfully with existing installed equipment, balancing design performance, manufacturability and operational constraints.

You will work directly with the Project Engineering Manager, collaborating closely with manufacturing teams, global engineering stakeholders and technical partners throughout the full engineering execution process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the mechanical design development of steam turbine retrofit, upgrade and product modification projects for GE Vernova’s global installed fleet.
  • Develop engineering solutions to support customer-specific technical requirements, including performance improvements, component redesign, product upgrades and lifetime extension initiatives.
  • Create, modify and maintain 3D CAD designs and assemblies using CATIA V5 or Siemens NX, ensuring technical accuracy and manufacturability.
  • Adapt existing turbine designs to integrate new components, solve compatibility constraints and support engineering modifications for installed equipment already operating in the field.
  • Support OTR engineering activities by developing technical solutions for installed fleet challenges and customer-driven engineering requests.
  • Review and validate engineering drawings, Bills of Materials (BOMs) and technical documentation to ensure design quality and consistency.
  • Collaborate closely with manufacturing teams to ensure designs align with production capabilities and assembly requirements.
  • Work with internal engineering teams and external partners to integrate technical inputs into complete design solutions.
  • Support product improvement initiatives focused on reliability, efficiency optimization and long-term fleet sustainability.
  • Partner directly with the Project Engineering Manager to ensure engineering deliverables meet quality expectations and project deadlines.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical discipline or experience.
  • Strong experience in mechanical design engineering, ideally within steam turbines, turbomachinery, rotating equipment or power generation systems
  • Advanced hands-on experience using CATIA V5, Siemens NX or similar CAD design platforms
  • Strong understanding of complex mechanical assemblies, manufacturing processes and design-for-manufacturing principles.
  • Experience working on retrofits, product modifications, upgrades, aftermarket engineering or complex engineering changes within industrial equipment.
  • Strong engineering problem-solving mindset with ability to develop solutions within existing technical constraints.
  • Ability to balance design quality, technical feasibility and project delivery requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience with steam turbines or large rotating equipment
  • Experience supporting installed product fleets, aftermarket engineering or customer-driven engineering modifications.
  • Understanding of retrofit engineering, product upgrades and engineering changes for legacy equipment.
  • Experience collaborating with manufacturing teams during engineering execution.
  • Familiarity with complex industrial assembly environments.

Travel Requirements:

This role is primarily office-based and heavily focused on engineering design activities.

Occasional travel may be required ( approximately 2%) to support collaboration with manufacturing sites or customer locations when deeper product understanding or technical alignment is beneficial.

Typical travel locations may include:

  • Manufacturing facilities in Poland (primary factory support)
  • Selected manufacturing operations in the United States
  • Engineering collaboration visits to Switzerland
  • Occasional customer visits, primarily within North America

Travel is helpful, but not considered a critical deciding factor for the role.
