The Senior Staff Research Scientist I: Computational Physicistwill also need to hone skills in encompassing both a re-definition of the way scientific research is performed and assist the Chief Science Officer.

TheSeniorStaff Research Scientist I: Resolute & Unstressed Computational Physicistwill be working on the expansion of the PIR project and will be responsible for the initiation, design, development, execution and implementation of long-term PIR-associated scientific research projects. TheSeniorStaff Research Scientist I: Resolute & Unstressed Computational Physicistwill also be obligated to provide assistance to all research scientist personnel in the R&D department.

TheSeniorStaff Research Scientist I: Resolute & Unstressed Computational Physicistwill report weekly to the Chief Science Officer and provide status reports. TheSeniorStaff Research Scientist I: Resolute & Unstressed Computational Physicistfor this position will function in the capacity of a researcher with the responsibility of providing assistance to theHexagon Lavish® Teamin developing the scientific foundation for theIISS(Informational Interpretation Scientific Software) platform and future research in other projects.

TheSeniorStaff Research Scientist I: Resolute & Unstressed Computational Physicistwill work with the program architecture staff to develop series of modeling applications of the PIR project(s) and conduct research on computational algorithms that will model the physics to exist within the program’s architecture. Prime candidacy for this position is looking to reward individuals for those who express exceptional skills in conducting research in protein folding, thermal modeling, finite element analysis and especially optics (including sequential and non-sequential ray tracing). Essentially, being prodigious in computer vision is also a requirement.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Contribute to the planning and architecture of new software projects
    • Investigate alternative algorithms and approaches to enable additional software features and improve computational performance
    • Verify, validate, and compare new algorithms
    • Work with the team to test the software as part of a three-dimensional imaging system, including laboratory testing, data processing, and image reconstruction and analysis
    • Visualize results and generate test plans for further system improvements
    • Work independently and in collaborations within a diverse group of technically inclined people working to advance multiple projects
    • Document software (source code, user’s guide, etc.)
    • Quickly learn and apply math, physics, and software skills as needed to accomplish project goals
    • Six or more years of experience developing complex computational algorithms and/or scientific software
    • Five or more years of experience with C/C++ and/or Java
    • Demonstrable expertise applying, defining and validating computational approaches to deliver insights and/or hypotheses, e.g., multivariate, Bayesian/non-Bayesian machine learning techniques
    • Relevant industrial research and development experience in addition to formal training in computational physics/chemistry, computer science, applied mathematics or statistics
    • Rapid prototyping of algorithms
    • Expertise in designing, prototyping and evaluating new optically-based design concepts, sub-systems and components for next-generation products
    • Experience designing optics, including tolerancing analyses on multi-component systems
    • Hands-on experience with creating and executing test protocols, analyzing test results and recommending prototype design iterations to optimize system optical performance

CANDIDATE PROFILE

    • A PhD in applied mathematics, engineering, physics, optical sciences or related science
    • Proficiency in Python and at least one compiled language (C, C++, Fortran, etc.)
    • A sound understanding of fundamental informational interpretation that relates to image processing and computer vision
    • Strong background in scientific computing
    • Familiarity with key concepts and techniques in analytical geometry, linear algebra, and calculus
    • Experience with implementing modeling and simulation software of image/signal processing and analysis technique

  • Coordinates, plans and executes laboratory research to prove feasibility of concepts
  • Investigates the feasibility of applying scientific principles and concepts to potential technologies, materials, processes and products

  • In-depth knowledge of relevant public or proprietary databases, methods and tools
  • Be willing to participate in monthly meetups and annual conferences, conventions, etc.
  • Must be comfortable working alongside other scientists, mathematicians, engineers and programmers in order to collaborate on ideas and achieve the fulfillment of objectives
  • A willingness to engage in conversation with others concerning technical attributes pertaining to subject matter relative to objectives of the job description
