#WeAreIn for jobs that impact everyone’s life

Infineon Technologies Americas Corp. is seeking a Senior Staff Engineer to drive product definition and applications engineering for power MOSFETs (60 V and below) used in cordless power tools and battery-powered motor drive applications. You will shape a differentiated portfolio, define requirements, and enable customer success through hands-on application expertise, simulation, and cross-functional collaboration.

Your role

Key responsibilities in your new role

  • Own product definition and positioning for low-voltage MOSFETs in cordless tools, garden/outdoor equipment, e-bikes, robotics, and other battery-powered BLDC/PMSM drives. Translate customer and market needs into requirements and roadmaps.
  • Provide application leadership on inverter architectures, gate drive, and thermal design in compact, high-current packages. Perform electrical and thermal simulation using PLECS, SPICE, SIMetrix, and similar tools, correlating results with lab data.
  • Design evaluation boards and reference designs, including PCB layout and embedded firmware (PWM, FOC/sensorless control, protection).
  • Conduct hands-on motor drive testing, including double-pulse, efficiency, thermal, stall/locked-rotor, and EMI/ringing measurements.
  • Provide customer support from design-in through production, including schematic/layout reviews, debug, MOSFET selection, and failure analysis. Partner with R&D and packaging on device and package trade-offs. Develop technical collateral (datasheets, application notes, user guides, models) and deliver trainings.
  • Engage tool OEMs, Tier-1s, distributors, and ecosystem partners, and build competitive analyses and business cases with product marketing.
  • Support validation and release readiness, ensuring data completeness, documentation quality, and alignment with relevant standards and qualifications.

Your profile

Qualifications and skills to help you succeed

  • MS in Electrical Engineering (or related) with 4+ years, or BS in Electrical Engineering (or related) with 6+ years of progressive experience.
  • Semiconductor product definition, technical marketing, or applications engineering experience with power MOSFETs or discrete power devices.
  • Background in battery-powered motor drive applications (cordless tools, BLDC/PMSM inverters, low-voltage gate drive and protection).
  • Strong fundamentals in power electronics, MOSFET switching behavior, SOA, and thermal design; ability to interpret schematics, layouts, and test/validation data.
  • Hands-on PCB layout for power stages and firmware development (C/C++) for motor control.
  • Hands-on motor drive testing and lab measurements (oscilloscopes, current probes, power analyzers, dynamometers, thermal imaging).
  • Proficiency with simulation tools such as PLECS, SPICE, and SIMetrix.
  • Ability to translate customer and market needs into product requirements, roadmaps, and business cases.
  • Experience creating technical collateral (datasheets, application notes, user guides) and delivering trainings.
  • Customer-facing experience, including design reviews and debug support.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; proficiency with common engineering and data tools (e.g., MATLAB/Python, Excel).
  • Willing to work on-site in El Segundo with limited telecommuting; willingness to travel up to 10% domestic and 10% international.
