Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY (Objective/Purpose of Position): The Senior Staff Accountant - Inventory position is responsible for the accurate and timely recording of inventory accounting transactions for the Company’s Retail division. This position also helps guide others on the inventory accounting team, develops cross-functional relationships to facilitate inventory initiatives and researches complex inventory accounting issues.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

(List in order of importance, indicate the essential responsibility and the % of time dedicated to each. (Cumulative total Essential and Non-Essential Functions must add up to 100%, no responsibility should be less than 5%)

· Inventory Close and Financial Reporting (25%)

Perform weekly and monthly procedures to ensure the timely and accurate closing of inventory sub-ledgers across multiple business channels and locations. Responsibilities include account reconciliations, review and resolution of exception reporting, validation of inventory-related transactions, analysis of inventory reserves and adjustments and detailed review of financial statement components to ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting policies.

· Gross Margin and Inventory Analysis (25%)

Develop, maintain and enhance reporting and analytical tools related to gross margin and inventory. Utilize financial and operational data to validate results, identify trends, explain fluctuations and support forecasting activities. Prepare executive-level variance analyses, coordinate information gathering from operational departments and effectively communicate findings, risks and recommendations to senior leadership and business stakeholders.

· Cross-Functional Business Partnership (20%)

Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to support inventory-related initiatives and strategic business objectives. Provide accounting guidance on inventory transactions, system enhancements and process changes while ensuring adherence to internal controls, company accounting policies and applicable accounting standards. Participate in identifying opportunities to improve operational efficiency, reporting accuracy and inventory integrity.

· Audit & Compliance Support (15%)

Establish, maintain and continuously improve schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation necessary for annual financial audits, internal audits and other compliance activities. Serve as a key point of contact for auditors by responding to inquiries, preparing requested analyses and explaining inventory accounting processes and controls. Monitor compliance with established procedures, recommend control enhancements when needed and ensure audit requests are completed accurately and within required timelines.

· Projects & Strategic Initiatives (15%)

Represent the Inventory Accounting team in company-wide projects, system implementations, process improvement initiatives, acquisitions, new business ventures and inventory-related operational changes. Evaluate proposed changes and assess impacts on inventory accounting, financial reporting and operational workflows. Collaborate with project teams to develop accounting requirements, ensure proper accounting treatment, support testing and implementation activities and communicate financial implications and recommendations to management.

· ALL OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Degree Required: Bachelor’s degree in accounting / finance

Preferred Degree: Master’s degree in accounting or business

Certificate(s) or License(s): CPA preferred.

Experience: 4+ years of progressive accounting experience, including inventory, cost accounting, inventory controls, financial reporting, public accounting or a combination thereof. Experience supporting retail, distribution, manufacturing or other inventory-intensive environments preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITY:

· Strong knowledge of GAAP and internal control concepts

· Ability to communicate clearly both in written and verbal interactions

· Advanced Excel skills and experience working with large data sets

· Experience performing account reconciliations, financial analysis and month-end close responsibilities
