POSITION: Senior Specialist Security Operations: Technology and Projects

JOB GRADING: D – Lower

DEPARTMENT: Protection Services

SITE: South Deep Gold Mine

The Senior Specialist: Security Operations (Technology & Projects) is responsible for the planning and safe execution of security technology upgrades and infrastructure projects, including risk management, incident response and the adoption of new systems and automation tools to improve operational efficiency. The incumbent is accountable for leading and developing team members and building strong stakeholder relations. The Senior Specialist will ensure sound governance of budgets and procurement processes, vendor engagement to ensure project delivery.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Tertiary qualified with a degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related field
  • Minimum of 5-8 years’ progressive experience in security-related technology management, with at least 3–5 years in a supervisory or managerial role
  • Proven track record in managing operational projects including scheduling, execution and application of associated financial, business case and cost management activities
  • Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant’s suitability for employment

Key Competencies:

  • Advanced operational safety leadership experience with demonstrated safety delivery record
  • Accomplished frontline team and people leader with advanced inter and intra-team collaboration
  • Advanced verbal and written English communication skills
  • Independent, proactive thinker with the ability to schedule and deliver assignments within tight deadlines
  • Proven track record in technology management, system design, integration and network administration, data collection and cybersecurity, with awareness of emerging technologies
  • Comprehensive understanding of data collection technologies, cybersecurity fundamentals and emerging security technologies
  • Proficiency in developing and managing assigned departmental and project budgets

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the Health and Safety of self and team members by applying relevant standards and procedures in the planning and execution of operational activities
  • Contribute to the culture of Zero Harm by participating in and contributing to operational safety campaigns, applying relevant legislative, operational and safe work standards and regulations and, instituting and monitoring appropriate remedial actions
  • Lead, motivate and develop security teams, ensuring appropriate scheduling and workload balance
  • Coach and mentor team members to enhance skills and support career development
  • Support company initiatives promoting a diverse, respectful, and inclusive workplace culture
  • Identify and co-create security system optimisation interventions and, plan and execute security technology upgrades and infrastructure projects aligned to the adoption of new systems, automation tools and operational efficiency initiative
  • Develop, maintain and implement risk management plans by identifying, assessing and mitigating operational risks, prioritising projects and resource allocation and ensuring full compliance with relevant policies and regulations
  • Make data-informed decisions on operational and technological incidents and, manage critical responses effectively
  • Manage quotations, contracts and budgets, ensuring optimal resource utilisation and timely completion of projects
  • Build and maintain stakeholder and vendor relationships to ensure transparent communication and successful project delivery
