Job Description

ORGANIZATION AND MANAGEMENT

  • Adherence to nursing care vision, mission, goals, andobjectives, aligns withthescope of nursingservices, andperforms shift duties as assigned by the UnitManager to ensure high-quality carerendered
  • Notifies the unit manager of any changes in the situation that couldimpactthestandardsof care.
  • Obtains and handovers a report of patient progress, ensuring alldoctor'sordersare followed before changing or overtaking shifts and notifying any incidents orproblemsencountered
  • Visit patients in the unit with team members to assess conditions, visit nursingcare, anddeterminenursing priorities based on patient needs and staffavailability.
  • Provides personalized, holistic patient care using the nursing processapproach,maintainingaccuratedocumentation in patient folders, and promptlyreporting any abnormal findings to relevant doctors or consultants.
  • Conducts nursing rounds on patients, providing emotional support andaccompanying doctors while doing rounds, as well asassistingin proceduresasneeded.
  • Executing the doctor's orders, coordinating with team members related to thepatient’s treatment, and fostering effective communication with all disciplines,patients, and relatives to ensure patient satisfaction.
  • Activelyparticipatesin the health education, dialogue sessions, and hospitalactivities.
  • Provide clear, compassionate, and culturally sensitive communication withpatients, ensuring their understanding of their condition, treatment options, andcare plan comprehensively.
  • Collaborate with the unit manager in administration, setting care standards,and fulfilling duties in the absence of the unit manager, while also carrying outassigned tasks and providing feedback.
  • Charge accurately, incorporating charges for equipment and consumable itemsinto the patient's charges and verifying their completeness.
  • Inspect and document the supply of sterile packs to ensure the integrity of thepackaging andmaintainan adequate supply of unit stock from central sterilesupply services.

HUMAN RESOURCE AND DEVELOPMENT

  • Accountable for personal and professional growth and keeps up to date withprofessional change bymaintainingmandatory learning hours.
  • Executes continuous professional development through annual competencyevaluations and privileges every 3 yearswhere applicableand areproficient in performingproceduretaskin the unit.
  • Participates and contributes to the teaching program of the unit/ward andorientation of new members of staff to the ward routine.
  • Engage in the supervision of staff, which includes:
  • Newly graduated registered nurses, Assistant Nurses, Midwives, Care
  • Assistants, and student nurses assigned to the unit for their clinicalexperience to achievethe clinicalattachmentobjectives
  • Collaborates with the unit manager to evaluate staff performance, provideconstructive feedback, andoptimizestaff, supply, and serviceutilizationforefficient resource allocation and coordination with consultants for effective bedmanagement.
  • Participate and contribute to the development and maintenance of the nursingprocess, ensuring effective patient care and documentation.
  • Participates in research initiatives and advocates for quality improvementthrough evidence-based practice.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

  • Participates in the review and revision of nursing policies, procedures, andwork instructions,providingvaluable insights, promoting best practices foroptimalpatientcare, andcontinuously improving the process.
  • Inspect the Psychotropic drugs with thepreviousshift's nurse in charge andadhere to hospital policies and procedures in medication care, custody, andadministration.
  • Checks daily and audits resuscitation trolley periodically as scheduled.
  • Promotes infection prevention and control by ensuring staff follow protocols,implementing surveillance activities, anddemonstratingcommitment throughpersonalinvolvement.

FACILITIES AND EQUIPMENT

  • Operates andmaintainsspecialized equipment in a unit, guidingnew staffontheuse of it andmaintainingaccuraterecords
  • Collaborate with the unit manager tomaintainequipment, medical supplies,consumable items, and drugs, ensuring proper functioning, service accordingto the planned preventive maintenance (PPM) schedule, and adequate stockand linensupply
  • Notify biomedical personnel of faulty equipment andassistin maintaininginstruments and equipment through proper cleaning, handling, disinfection,and usage.
  • Participate in a quarterly stock count with the finance staff.

SAFETY AND QUALITY IMPROVEMENT ACTIVITIES

  • Participatein and support activities aimed at the continuous improvement ofnursing services, including quality assurance, infection control, and fire andsafety programs.
  • Conduct thorough investigations, root cause analyses,appropriate responseactions, andtimelycompletion of incident reports within the stipulatedtimeframe.
  • Collaborate with unit manager to collect and evaluate clinical andadministrative data, andparticipatein hospital-wide surveys like MSQH, JCI,IMS, etc. for continuous quality improvement efforts.
  • Adhere to the Occupational Safety and Health Act and Regulations 1994,which mandate reasonable work care, employer cooperation, protectiveequipmentuses, patient safety goals, World Alliance recommendations, patientand family rights policies, standard people practice, and 5S activities.

ADDITIONAL JOB DESCRIPTION - HEALTH SCREENING UNIT

  • Promote and recommendappropriate healthscreening packages based on patients' clinical needs, risk factors, and financial considerations.
  • Perform comprehensive pre-screening assessments, including history taking, vitalsignsmeasurement, risk factor evaluation, and nursing assessment. Provide professional health education and counselling toassistpatients in selecting the mostappropriate healthscreeningprogrammed
  • Promote disease prevention, healthy lifestyle practices, and wellness initiatives through patient education and evidence-based health promotion.
  • Coordinate and schedule health screening appointments, diagnostic investigations, and specialist consultations according to clinical priority and patients' preferences.
  • Review screening findings,facilitateappropriate referrals, and coordinatetimelyfollow-up for patients with abnormal orsignificant resultsin collaboration with the attending physician.
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee the delivery of patient care and diagnostic procedures to ensure efficient workflow and continuity of care.
  • Demonstrate effective communication and collaboration with multidisciplinary healthcare professionals to ensure quality patient care and service excellence.
  • Participate in planning, coordinating, and conducting external health screeningprogrammed, corporate wellness events, and community health promotion activities.
  • Ensure patients' rights, privacy, confidentiality, dignity, and informed decision-making aremaintainedthroughout the health screening process.
  • Maintain a safe, patient-centeredenvironment by ensuring the security of patients' personal belongings and adherence to patient safety practices.
  • Ensuretimelyreview, coordination, and distribution of health screening reports and diagnostic results to patients and referring physicians, whilemaintainingdocumentation accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Provide clinical supervision, guidance, and mentorship to nursing and support staff within the Health Screening Unit to ensure compliance with established policies, clinical standards, and best practices.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, clinical audits, risk management activities, and accreditationprogrammedto enhance the quality and safety of Health Screening Unit services.
  • Assistin the development, implementation, review, and continuous improvement of policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and clinical practice guidelines related to Health Screening Unit services.
  • Maintain competency in health screening procedures, emergency response, infection prevention and control, and mandatory clinical training requirements.

Requirements:

Education:

  • Registered with Nursing Board of Malaysia with a valid license to practiceas a Registered Nurse.

Knowledge and Experiences:

  • Registered Nurse with at least 5 years of clinical experience and diversity inclinical experience and teaching

Skills & Competencies:

  • Possess certifications in BLS and PALS

Special skillsarerequired

  • Proficient in writing and conversing in English and Bahasa Malaysia.
  • Microsoft Office literacy
