Position purpose:

Under the supervision of the Director of the School of Nursing, leads the planning, organization, execution and continuous improvement of all aspects related to the efficient delivery of the academic graduate programs of the School of Nursing. Translates strategies into program plans and deliverables in support of meeting program objectives while promoting service excellence. Ensures collaboration among program staff and establishes processes and procedures that optimize resources contributing to the overall success of academic, research and/or special services offered by the University of Ottawa.

As part of this role, the incumbent is also responsible to provide high-level advisory support to the school direction for all graduate programs (Masters of Science in Nursing, Nurse Practitioner and Doctorate of Philosophy) to oversee the processes, program approval, accreditation and curricula of the graduate programs of the School of Nursing, and leads process assessment and continuous improvement projects.

In this role, your responsibilities will include:

-Program Operations Management: Oversees all ongoing operational activities, including but not limited to courses, workshops, training and events, in support of core program delivery including administrative and financial functions, resource allocation, monitoring and communication. Leads and coordinates cross-project activities of inter-connected projects within the program scope with the objective of maximizing resources and enhancing communication. Acts as management liaison with other faculties/services and external partners (ie: Ontario Nurse Practitioner Consortium, provincial and national committees, preceptors/tutors, etc) whose contribution is a key input to program success, as well as to ensure effective communication and collaboration on areas of common interest. Oversees activities undertaken as part of special projects within the overall scope of the program. Develops and refines policies and procedures to support the School of Nursing’s graduate programs operations. Assesses, reviews and implements the grade review process to ensure consistency and fairness and puts in place quality assurance control measures.

-Planning: Participates in needs analyses and strategic planning activities by contributing innovative ideas and evidence-based information related to program delivery. Translates global program objectives and needs into short -, medium- and long -term operational plans. Identifies risks to success and implements contingency measures to ensure program continuity. Plans key resources: human, material, financial and space, towards meeting program objectives.

-Advisory support: provides high-level advisory support to the school direction for all graduate programs (Masters of Science in Nursing, Nurse Practitioner and Doctorate of Philosophy) to oversee the processes related to programs approval, accreditation and curricula of the graduate programs of the School of Nursing. Makes strategic recommendations to the school direction on congruence with pedagogical best-practices, available evidence to support program approval elements, updates related to regulatory body standards, congruence with University Regulations as they pertain to program delivery, student evaluation and student experience. Liaises with the Specialist, Accreditation, Program Evaluation and Curriculum to coordinate the accreditation process. Provides high-level advisory support in relation to the Ontario Nurse Practitioner Consortium guidelines and congruence with University of Ottawa policies and regulations.

-Continuous Improvement: Devises key performance indicators and ensures accurate tracking of data for evaluating performance against program objectives. Analyses performance trends and adjusts program elements accordingly. Monitors industry trends and norms to introduce innovations into program planning and delivery, and ensures continuous alignment of deliverables with global objectives of the sector while favouring service excellence. Given the ongoing nature of programs, ensures that program deliverables continue to evolve with the evolving needs of program participants. Gathers information to inform and enhance the School of Nursing initiatives and actively contributes to other initiatives that align with strategic priorities as needed.

-System management: Develops and implements a Brightspace platform to centralize resources and information for nurse practitioner students across all years of the program. Helps in developing a tracking system to facilitate program approval and accreditation processes.

-Budget management: Manages the annual budget of programs under their care in consultation with the school’s director and Chief Administrative Officer. Monitors and oversees Nurse Practitioner program funds and tracks expenses to guarantee the necessary resources for quality program delivery. Reports on programs data and performance to the school’s director and makes recommendations for allocation of funds.

-Program Promotion: Acts as an ambassador for the program, and actively promotes program impact, features and successes. Effectively communicates the link between programobjectives and the overall vision of the faculty, while consistently supporting and upholding the reputation of the program.

What you will bring:

  • University degree in Nursing, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience;

  • Master’s degree in Nursing and/or experience as a Nurse Practitioner is an asset.

  • 5 years of related experience in program or project management

  • Membership with the College of Nurses of Ontario is an asset.

  • Knowledge of university academic programs and fields related to nursing, health, education, or business among others.

  • Experience in budget management and planning.

  • Experience interpreting performance metrics in support of evidence-based decision-making.

  • Ability to succeed in a high-paced, high demand environment with strict deadlines.

  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple elements of ongoing operations.

  • Ability to simplify and explain rules and regulations.

  • Ability to motivate a team and to collaborate with multiple stakeholders.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Bilingualism: French and English (spoken and written); to be considered for this position, candidates must be rated at the Low Advanced proficiency level or higher for both oral comprehension and reading comprehension in their second official language.
