In this role, you'll:

Work as a Senior Cyber Security Specialist, you will lead the delivery of advanced cyber security expertise, providing strategic guidance and deep technical oversight across threat detection, defence architecture, risk assessment, and resilience engineering. The role supports the design, evaluation, implementation, and continuous enhancement of cyber defence and risk management capabilities across the Transport cluster.

Duties & Responsibilities will include (not limited to):

  • Delivering services and projects aligned with organisational objectives, the threat landscape, regulatory requirements, and industry best practice.
  • Designing risk mitigation strategies and programs to support key cyber defence, risk, and resilience functions across the organisation
  • Leading stakeholder engagement and service improvement to strengthen cyber and technology risk outcomes across the cluster
  • Providing high level advice on complex cyber security issues and oversee team priorities to ensure delivery of business unit outcomes

About you

For you to be successful within this role you should meet with all, or most of the following criteria:

  • 5+ years performing similar duties/responsibilities as outlined above, alternatively you may be a Cyber Security Analyst believing that you are ready to take that next step in your career
  • You thrive in complex, fast paced settings, combining hands on technical depth with strong influence across identity, cloud, network, OT/ICS, and application security teams
  • Hands-on experience in design and build/configuration leveraging prevalent cyber security and cloud platforms and toolsets
  • Expert technical knowledge in one or more cyber security domains: IDAM, PAM, cloud security, network security, security monitoring, OT security, and/or vulnerability management
  • Strong understanding of security frameworks and standards (NIST CSF, ISO 27001, Essential Eight, Zero Trust)

Preferred but not essential:

  • CISSP, Cloud Security Certifications

About the team:

This role sits within the Cyber Portfolio Delivery (CPD) team delivering the FY25-27 Transport Cyber Security Program. The program delivers dedicated cyber uplift, risk reduction, and security focused transformation across all of Transport for NSW through a bespoke Safe Agile delivery model designed specifically for cyber environments.

This is a fixed-term opportunity, up until 30 September 2026. A flexible hybrid role, 50% of your time will be office based, with 25% of that time based from our offices at Macquarie Park (at least one day a week). Salary & Grading – Grade 9 ($158,393.00 - $177,399.00 + super).
