Overview

Join the Microsoft Devices Operations (MDO) team as a Senior Sourcing Engineer for Integrated Components (ICs), where you will own the end-to-end sourcing strategy and business performance for critical semiconductor technologies that power Surface, Xbox, and other programs.

This high-impact role serves as the accountable leader for supplier strategy, commercial outcomes, supply continuity, and long-term category health. You will shape sourcing decisions from early technology engagement and product development through commercialization and lifecycle management, partnering closely with Engineering, Product Management, Finance, Operations, and Legal teams to deliver resilient, cost-effective, and industry-leading hardware solutions.

Success in this role requires a unique combination of technical acumen, commercial expertise, strategic thinking, and executive influence. You will build and lead relationships with some of the world's most critical semiconductor suppliers, drive complex negotiations, develop long-term sourcing and resiliency strategies, and navigate dynamic market conditions to ensure Microsoft maintains a competitive advantage.

Responsibilities

• Own the end-to-end sourcing strategy and supply chain performance for assigned semiconductor and IC categories, from technology selection and supplier engagement through commercialization, production, and lifecycle management.
• Serve as the single accountable leader for supplier strategy, commercial outcomes, supply continuity, risk management, and overall business performance within the category.
• Develop and execute long-term sourcing strategies that align supplier roadmaps, technology capabilities, capacity plans, and commercial frameworks with Microsoft Devices product and business objectives.
• Lead executive-level supplier relationships, driving strategic partnerships, commercial negotiations, Product Supply Agreements, and performance commitments that deliver competitive advantage and sustained value.
• Partner with Engineering, Architecture, Product Management, Finance, Operations, and Legal to influence critical design, sourcing, and business decisions, balancing technology requirements, cost, quality, resiliency, and time-to-market.
• Drive end-to-end supplier selection and qualification processes, evaluating technical capabilities, manufacturing readiness, capacity, financial health, and long-term strategic fit.
• Own supply chain resiliency strategies, including multi-sourcing, alternate source qualification, capacity planning, and business continuity initiatives to mitigate risk and ensure uninterrupted supply.
• Anticipate and resolve systemic supply chain challenges impacting quality, cost, delivery, lead times, or capacity, leading cross-functional teams to deliver sustainable solutions.
• Lead contracting activities and commercial governance, ensuring agreements appropriately address business objectives, intellectual property protection, supply commitments, operational flexibility, and risk allocation.
• Deliver measurable improvements in cost, quality, supply assurance, and operational performance through data-driven decision making, supplier performance management, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Champion strategic initiatives with internal stakeholders and suppliers, influencing decisions across organizational boundaries and driving alignment on complex, high-impact business priorities.
• Provide thought leadership on market dynamics, supplier ecosystems, technology trends, and sourcing best practices, shaping long-term category and supply chain strategy.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications:

• Master's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 3+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles.
• OR Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 4+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles.
• OR equivalent experience.

Additional or preferred qualifications

Other Requirements: Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

• Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Direct experience sourcing semiconductors, ASICs, SoCs, memory, connectivity solutions, power management ICs, or other advanced electronic components.
• Demonstrated experience owning business outcomes across the full supplier lifecycle, from technology selection and supplier strategy through commercialization, production, and ongoing supply chain performance.
• Experience managing strategic sourcing and supplier relationships within the semiconductor or electronics industry.
• Experience in supplier negotiations, commercialization, capacity planning, and supply chain risk management.
• Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams and drive complex business decisions.
• Demonstrated analytical and commercial acumen with a track record of improving cost, quality, and supply performance.
• Experience leading supplier qualification, contracting, and business continuity initiatives.
• Knowledge of semiconductor technologies, market trends, and global supplier ecosystems.
• Effective communication, stakeholder management, and executive engagement skills.

Sourcing Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $160,200 - $261,000 per year.
