Senior Sommelier –TavernettaVail
Four Seasons Vail and James Beard Award winners Frasca Hospitality Group, led by Chef Lachlan Mackinnon-Patterson, Master Sommelier Bobby Stuckey, and Peter Hoglund, have collaborated to createTavernettaVail. Part of the Frasca Hospitality Group, home to the Michelin-starred Frasca Food and Wine,TavernettaDenver is recognized with a Michelin Bib Gourmand and is known for its genuine hospitality and authentic Italian fare.
The group has expanded to include the Italian and European inspired eateries of Pizzeria Alberico and Sunday Vinyl and seek to continue this dedication to providing warm and gracious hospitality with the opening ofTavernettaVail at the Four Seasons Resort by hiring enthusiastic, ambitious, and humble staff to uphold a culture of excellence, education, and respect.
About The Role:
The primary responsibility of theTavernettaVail Senior Sommelier is to set the team up for successful service through proper maintenance of the administrative duties of the wine program, to lead the entire Front Of House team by leading through great habits on the floor (i.e. “all eyes on me”, i.e. “leading by example”), and to effectively communicate regularly with the General Manager.Additionaltasks include completing monthly inventory and weekly ordering for the beverage program, along with day-to-day operations of the restaurantSommeliers will be held to the Court of MasterSommeliersstandards of service, theory and tasting
What You Will Do:
Develop andmaintainthe wine program withinTavernettaVail.
Partner with other Outlet Managers for support and developmentopportunities.
Oversight of beverage program profitability
Partner with bartenders on cocktail program and development.
Ensurebeverage requisitions are accurately completed and submitted each night.
Development of catering offerings with Sales and Catering team for increasedguestssatisfaction.
Check BEOs for private party orders - make sure wines are in stock for upcoming parties.
Communicate with the Purchasing Department on all wine product needs or issues.
Strong communicationwith the entire team about any changes to the wine program.
Staff training and development of regions,varietalsand terroir.
Train team membersonnew products.
Inform team about items that are no longer available or have changed.
What You Bring:
Theory - must have passed/or be pursuing the Advanced Certification from the Court of Master Sommeliers or have an equivalent certification and/or experience and knowledge.A theoretical assessment will be given before the interview process.
Attitude - willingness to learn in afast paced, high-volume environment
Guest - positive interactions and focused on hospitality
Teamwork - must be a conscientious individual that hasa strong senseof teamwork and the confidence to strive to be better than the day before
Mentorship - a strong understanding ofthe teachingand development of staff
Understanding inventory,purchasing, beverage, and invoice reconciliation
Communication - Must havestrong communicationskills and be comfortable withnumerousdaily internal and external email communications, calendar communications, in person communication with co-workers, guests and vendors.
This role has direct contact with guests and as such,good communicationskills are a necessity
Fluency in English isrequiredfor thislocation,and this job requires applicants to have current work authorization in the in the United States. Bi-lingual in Italian/Spanish is a plus.
Must be able to stand for 8+ hours.
Preferred Qualifications
Proficiencywith email, OneDrive (file sharing service), Excel, and Word.
Minimum five plus years in the F&B industry (within the past ten years) with three plus years in a Sommelier role
Italian wine & culinary knowledge
Professional and confident verbal and written communication.
Strong ability to multitask.
