The role is based atDroneShield’scentral Sydney headquarters. Overseas on-the-ground presence includes Virginia (USA), Netherlands, Denmark,Mexicoand Dubai, as well as distributors in over 70countries worldwide.

About the role

This is a senior technical role positioned at the intersection of engineering, customer delivery, and solution design. Reporting to the Systems Engineering Manager, the Senior Solutions Engineer partners closely with Sales, Product, and Engineering teams to understand customer needs, design scalable solutions, and support smooth deployments across complex operational environments.

This role suits someone with deep technical capability, strong communication skills, and experience guiding or mentoring engineers. You will play a key part in shaping solution direction, contributing to process improvement, and supporting junior team members in developing strong engineering practices.

Responsibilities, Duties and Expectations

  • Provide clear, concise technical guidance during pre‑sales engagements with customers, partners, and internal teams.
  • Understand customer use cases and apply systems engineering principles to analyse requirements and ensure cohesive end‑to‑end solution design.
  • Lead development of solution architectures, connection points (data, power, network) and technical workflows (site configuration plans).
  • Mentor and guide junior Engineers, supporting their professional development and contributing to team capability uplift.
  • Collaborate closely with delivery and engineering teams to ensure smooth deployment across varied and challenging environments.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues during implementation and provide escalation support as needed.
  • Support successful customer onboarding by guiding configuration and promoting best practices.
  • Maintain strong product knowledge across DroneShield products, technologies, solutions, and roadmap to effectively position and demonstrate capabilities.
  • Contribute to improving internal processes, documentation quality, and solution‑design standards.
  • This role requires frequent travel.
  • This role is based on‑site at DroneShield’s AU headquarters.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, similar technical field of study, or equivalent practical experience
  • 5+ years in a customer facing technical role (solutions engineering, systems engineering, technical consulting, or similar).
  • Experience supporting or leading small technical teams, mentoring junior engineers, or owning technical workstreams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including delivery of technical presentations to internal stakeholders and external customers.
  • Comfortable operating in a Linux environment with solid understanding of networking, systems, and software.
  • Technical experience with networked devices, telecommunications, RF systems, electronic warfare, or machine learning/AI is highly valued.
  • Previous experience working in the Defense, Aerospace, or Public Safety industries is highly regarded
