Senior Solution Architect | 100% Remote | Contract role
A global leader in technology is looking for a Senior Solution Architect to define and lead the architecture of a new internal workflow-orchestration platform, supporting critical business and workforce transformation processes.
The project:
You will design the target architecture, from the ground up, of a secure, role-based, reusable platform that supports several business transformation products. The core challenge: enabling multiple products to share foundational technical services while keeping strict separation of data, permissions, workflows, business rules, and user experiences. This is primarily an architecture and technical-direction role, with selective hands-on contribution when the project calls for it.
Responsibilities:
Define the end-to-end architecture: frontend applications, backend services, databases, workflow-control layer, identity and access, audit, integration adapters, reporting, export, and deployment
Design the reusable workflow foundation: role permissions, stage gates, approval routing, scenario and version management, change ledger, validation, reporting, exports, and reconciliation
Establish data-isolation and access-control patterns so multiple products can reuse shared components without compromising security, data models, or processes
Set the nonfunctional requirements: scale, availability, recoverability, observability, performance, maintainability, and disaster recovery
Lead technical design reviews, architectural decisions, risk management, engineering standards, and documentation
Provide technical direction to the full-stack engineering team, ensuring build decisions align with the approved architecture and security model
Requirements:
10+ years in enterprise software engineering, including 4+ in systems, solution, platform, or enterprise architecture
Proven experience building scalable solutions within the AWS ecosystem
Experience architecting secure workflow, case-management, planning, or orchestration platforms with automation and human-in-the-loop processes
Strong knowledge of domain-driven design, API architecture, relational and event-driven data models, IAM, and enterprise integration
Experience with systems handling sensitive data (employee, financial, legal, or regulated)
Role-based access control (RBAC), ideally also attribute- or field-level authorization
Full-stack fluency (React/TypeScript; Python/FastAPI, Java/Spring, Node.js, .NET or similar), able to go hands-on when needed
Cloud architecture, CI/CD, observability, disaster recovery, and production support
Strong communication skills to bridge business, security, data, and engineering
Nice to have:
Integrations with HR, finance, or workforce-planning systems (Workday HCM, Workday Adaptive Planning, or similar)
Workforce planning, org design, hierarchical data, scenario modeling, or highly governed people-transformation processes
AI-assisted workflow patterns, with a clear sense of where deterministic rules and human approval must stay authoritative
Regulated global environments with strict audit and governance requirements
