About the role | Mō te tūranga mahi

We have an opportunity for a Senior Solicitor to join the Litigation team on a permanent basis. The litigation portfolio is varied and includes dispute resolution litigation under the Accident Compensation Act 2001, public, civil, commercial, criminal and coronial matters.

This role will primarily focus on criminal and integrity matters including advice and guidance to ACC’s Fraud Prevention and Investigation and Workplace Integrity teams, responding to Coronial inquests, and some of the other litigation the team manages. Some Court appearances are still required from time to time on discrete matters such as non-party disclosure orders.

You'll join a collaborative team of experienced legal professionals who provide strategic advice and litigation support across a broad range of ACC's activities.

The appointing salary for this role is $117,787 – $166,288 (based on experience) ACC offers a comprehensive benefits package which at present includes an advantageous superannuation scheme ( 9% contribution) with features like no mandatory employee contribution, optional life and income protection insurance.

This is a permanent role, based in either Wellington or Auckland

About you | Mōu

We’re looking for applicants who have a strong grounding in criminal law or regulatory enforcement/litigation and associated processes, but who may be looking to step back from regular court appearances. Alternatively, you may have experience within a regulatory environment and looking to take the next step into a senior role. Your work will help ensure ACC operates lawfully, effectively and in the best interests of New Zealanders.

You will bring:

  • A tertiary qualification in law and a current New Zealand Law Society practicing certificate.
  • Litigation, public law and legal advisory experience gained within a criminal law, regulatory enforcement or similar environment.
  • Strong experience and confidence engaging, influencing and advising at senior leadership levels as well as the skills and ability to work with diverse teams and people across the organisation.
  • Experience or an understanding of acting as a model litigant.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • An awareness of issues related to people with disabilities and experience working in an environment requiring cultural and social awareness.
  • Knowledge of ACC, public sector legislation, and the wider system within which ACC operates is preferred.
