Job Description

Imagine a piloted air taxi that takes off vertically, then quietly carries you and your fellow passengers over the congested city streets below, enabling you to spend more time with the people and places that matter most. At Joby, we've been working to make that dream a reality since 2009 and we're now in the final stages of certifying our aircraft with the FAA. With plans to launch our aircraft in the US and Dubai, we're now scaling manufacturing and preparing for the launch of our commercial service.

We're looking for a Senior Network Software Verification Engineer to perform automated testing of a powered network system and ethernet switch software, drivers, and APIs used in embedded aircraft networking. You'll verify requirements for interface management, packet processing, system timing, traffic management, and power distribution, executed within the existing test framework and lab infrastructure, in support of aircraft certification for passenger carry.

Responsibilities

  • Perform requirements-based testing (RBT) of the powered network system and ethernet switch software against defined system and interface requirements
  • Assist with and troubleshoot building out and configuring the hardware in the testing environment / test stand
  • Write and maintain Python automated test scripts within the existing test framework
  • Capture, analyze, and monitor network traffic to verify functionality, timing, latency, throughput, redundancy, and robustness
  • Troubleshoot network connectivity and performance issues; document and drive defects to resolution
  • Improve existing test infrastructure and suggest process improvements within the certified framework
  • Coordinate with development and hardware teams to isolate software vs. hardware issues
  • Document lab environments, test procedures, and automation infrastructure per configuration management requirements for certification purposes

Required

  • B.S. in Computer Science, Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent and 5+ years industry experience in Quality Assurance, Software Verification, or Test Engineering. An advanced degree and 3+ yrs industry experience will also be considered
  • Demonstratable experience with requirements-based testing (RBT) methodologies
  • Expert-level Python experience/skills specifically applied to software test and verification
  • Working knowledge of C++ sufficient to read/understand embedded software under test and support C++-based test cases
  • Strong understanding of networking protocols
  • Experience with oscilloscopes, network traffic analyzers, and performance testing tools (e.g., iperf, Aukua, Ixia, Spirent)
  • Experience with project management, bug tracking, and CI tools (e.g., JIRA, Jenkins, TeamCity)
  • Experience testing or developing software for network devices
  • Reporting of defects, code coverage, and other quality metrics
  • Embedded systems testing experience
  • Linux system administration and scripting experience

Desired

  • DO-178C certification testing experience
  • Agile development, unit testing, and test-driven development
  • Experience with BDD (Behavior-Driven Development) and Gherkin syntax for writing test specifications
  • Experience with containerization (Docker)
  • Familiarity with CI/CD practices and modern IDEs/debuggers
  • Understanding of embedded software concepts (signal analysis, processor timing, memory allocation)
