Job Description

Riot engineers bring deep knowledge of specific technical areas but also value the opportunity to work in a variety of broader domains. As Software Engineers, we work with both new and current technology, creating innovative solutions to overcome high-volume obstacles and to deliver player value.

As a Senior Software Engineer on the Content Access Platform (CAP) team, you will own and operate large-scale, distributed services that support millions of Riot players worldwide, enabling them to engage with their favorite games and participate in Riot’s ecosystem of digital goods and progression systems. Working closely with game studios, you’ll help identify and deliver platform solutions that prioritize efficiency, scalability, and reliability for developers, while powering in-game experiences across all of Riot’s titles - from battle passes, missions, and in-game stats to virtual currency wallets and player inventories. Your passion for delivering player value will help create new experiences that delight our fans, and you will report to the Engineering Manager of the Content Access Platform team within Publishing Platform.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, and operate microservices for managing virtual assets and progression systems for Riot’s players and fans
  • Work with teams of experts across the company to design, prototype, build, and ship new features
  • Help ensure that your team is consistently executing with excellence
  • Be part of a rotational on-call schedule for live product and internal customer support
  • Work with technical and non-technical customers to understand their requirements and design solutions that fit their needs

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • 4+ years of experience in professional software development
  • 3+ years of professional experience working with Java or Kotlin, including experience building and operating highly scalable services in these languages
  • Experience with distributed system architectures and with maintaining large scale cloud services

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with data storage technologies such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, Amazon Aurora, Dynamo, etc.
  • Experience with networking technologies from HTTP down to the network layer (TCP/IP, routing, etc)
  • Experience with industry standard cloud computing platforms (AWS preferred)
  • Experience with event driven architectures and event brokers such as Kafka, EventBridge, EventHub, etc.

For this role, you'll find success through craft expertise, a collaborative spirit, and decision-making that prioritizes your fellow Rioters, who are the customers of your work. Being a dedicated fan of games is not necessary for this position!

Our Perks:

Riot focuses on work/life balance, shown by our open paid time off policy and other perks such as flexible work schedules. We offer medical, dental, and life insurance, parental leave for you, your spouse/domestic partner, and children, and a 401k with company match. Check out our benefits pages for more information.

At Riot Games, we put players first That mission drives every decision in our quest to create games and experiences that make it better to be a player. Whether you’re working directly on a new player-facing experience or you’re supporting the company as a whole, everyone at Riot is part of our mission. And just like in our games, we’re better when we work together. Our goal is to create collaborative teams where you are empowered to bring your unique perspective everyday. If that sounds like the kind of place you want to work, we’re looking forward to your application.
