Job Description

Imagine a piloted air taxi that takes off vertically, then quietly carries you and your fellow passengers over the congested city streets below, enabling you to spend more time with the people and places that matter most. At Joby, we've been working to make that dream a reality since 2009 and we're now in the final stages of certifying our aircraft with the FAA. With plans to launch our aircraft in the US and Dubai, we're now scaling manufacturing and preparing for the launch of our commercial service.

The Elevate Edge Applications Team (EEAT) builds the software that sits closest to Joby's physical operations — charging infrastructure, maintenance tooling, situational awareness, and operational intelligence.

As a Senior Software Engineer on EEAT, you will contribute to Joby's mission by supporting the charging software that brings charging infrastructure from testing into commercial operations. The work will span development, testing, and validation in software-in-the-loop simulation, lab testing with hardware-in-the-loop, all the way to deployment to the field.

There are opportunities to expand your scope on the team to support near aircraft systems beyond charging, such as maintenance, contributing across the full product lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Work on the user-facing charging software: monitor, control, and troubleshoot flows used during both charge testing and charge sessions
  • Work with flexibility and agility, adapting the software as charging equipment and firmware capabilities develop
  • Contribute to building applications that support aircraft maintenance workflows, expanding your scope across near aircraft systems
  • Work across the full stack — both backend and frontend — as the software spans equipment interfaces and user-facing tooling
  • Leverage AI as part of your own development and testing workflows to accelerate delivery

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a comparable field
  • 5+ years of full stack software engineering experience — backend and frontend — including taking software from prototype to production
  • Deep understanding of APIs, web services, and system integration
  • Comfortable with streaming data patterns such as WebSockets, Kafka, or similar
  • Proficiency in C#, Python and Angular; comfort picking up additional languages and frameworks such as Java and React as needed, leveraging AI to accelerate that translation
  • Experience with standard software development practices, including CI/CD,Git-based workflows, and containerized deployments to Kubernetes
  • Experience leveraging AI tools/workflows to automate and accelerate development and testing.
  • Familiarity working near hardware (distinct from hardware firmware development)
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, a proactive mindset, and demonstrated ability to work effectively across teams
  • Strong Senior to Staff-level engineer capable of independent delivery

Desired

  • Experience in operations, transportation, automotive, or logistics environments
  • Aviation experience is a bonus, not required
