Senior Software Engineer (Java / AWS / Kafka) Location: Houston, TX Employment Type: Long-term contract (W2 hourly) NO C2C About the Role We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to design, build and support integration solutions across a modern, cloud-based ecosystem. You will work with event-driven architectures, microservices and AWS services to connect systems reliably and at scale. This is a long-term contract with a collaborative team that values quality, ownership and clear communication. Key Responsibilities Design, develop and maintain integration services and microservices using Java and Spring Boot Build and support event-driven solutions with Kafka (AWS MSK), JMS, EventBridge and SQS/SNS Develop serverless workflows using AWS Lambda and Step Functions Design and expose APIs through AWS API Gateway Work with relational databases (Oracle, PostgreSQL, Aurora/RDS), including SQL and PL/SQL development Manage database schema changes with Liquibase Build data integration and ETL processes using AWS Glue and S3 Containerize applications with Docker and provision infrastructure with Terraform Maintain and improve CI/CD pipelines using GitHub, Harness and Azure DevOps Monitor application health and performance with Datadog, and manage Kafka environments with Conduktor Contribute to front-end features when needed using Angular, React or Next.js Troubleshoot production issues and work with cross-functional teams to deliver solutions Requirements Java (8, 17 and 21), Spring and Spring Boot JavaScript/TypeScript with AngularJS, Angular, React and Next.js Python Microservices architecture XML, YAML and JSON Terraform and Docker Bash/Shell scripting Kafka and JMS Oracle, PostgreSQL, SQL and PL/SQL Liquibase Hibernate and JDBC AWS: EventBridge, API Gateway, SQS/SNS, Aurora/RDS, Lambda, Step Functions, Glue, S3, MSK and Secrets Manager Git/GitHub, Harness and general CI/CD practices Azure and Azure DevOps Conduktor Datadog
