The Senior Software Engineer (P3) is a strong individual contributor responsible for designing, developing, and supporting scalable services and APIs across our Enterprise Data platform.
You'll work closely with senior engineers, architects, and product teams to build the microservices, data pipelines, and analytics capabilities that turn Wiley's content and research assets into actionable intelligence—while contributing to engineering quality, system reliability, and continuous improvement.
Key responsibilities
Design and develop scalable backend services using Java, Python, and Spring Boot.
Build and maintain RESTful APIs and microservices to OpenAPI specifications.
Contribute to the design of Big Data and analytics engineering pipelines that power our Enterprise Data platform.
Apply sound database design principles across relational and NoSQL data stores.
Collaborate with Product, QA, and DevOps teams throughout the software development lifecycle.
Participate in system design discussions, technical reviews, and code reviews.
Write unit and integration tests.
Troubleshoot and resolve production issues.
Contribute to CI/CD automation and observability practices.
Required qualifications
7+ years of software development experience.
Strong experience with
Java, Python, Spring Boot, REST APIs and OpenAPI, SQL databases
Experience designing and building microservices.
Experience with cloud-native development on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and/or other cloud platforms such as AWS, with a preference for GCP.
Experience with Big Data and analytics engineering building or supporting data pipelines, batch or stream processing, or analytics platforms.
Strong database design skills across relational and NoSQL systems.
Experience with
Docker, CI/CD pipelines, Git-based workflows
Understanding of Agile development methodologies.
Experience writing automated tests using JUnit and Mockito.
Experience with Elasticsearch for search and indexing.
Frontend experience with React and JavaScript/TypeScript.
Experience with event-driven architectures using Kafka or other messaging infrastructure.
Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP), including serverless services and BigQuery.
Exposure to observability and monitoring tools, such as Grafana or Prometheus.
