As a Senior Backend Engineer at Brevo, you will design and build highly scalable services that power millions of customer interactions daily. You will work with minimal oversight, contribute to architectural decisions, reduce technical debt, and mentor your peers.
This is a hands-on role at the heart of Brevo's platform evolution, including our ongoing migration to Go and modernisation of our distributed backend stack.
Your impact at Brevo:
- Design and implement complex backend components and features with full ownership from design to production
- Contribute to system architecture discussions and propose scalability improvements for high-traffic, distributed systems
- Drive code quality through reviews, standards, and proactively reducing technical debt
- Collaborate cross-functionally with other development teams and business units to deliver cohesive, high-quality engineering outcomes in an Agile environment
- Troubleshoot and optimise core services, databases, and messaging infrastructure
- Participate in on-call rotations and logging/debugging practices for production systems
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers by sharing knowledge and setting a high technical bar
Who you are:
- 4-7 years of professional backend software development experience
- Strong backend fundamentals in system design, scalable architecture, and hands-on experience building and maintaining production-grade applications
- Strong proficiency in Go (Golang) is strongly preferred given our current stack direction
- Solid understanding of microservices architecture and distributed systems design
- Hands-on experience with NoSQL databases (MongoDB) and/or relational databases (MySQL)
- Experience with message queues such as RabbitMQ or Kafka
- Working knowledge of caching strategies (Redis or equivalent)
- Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools (Datadog, New Relic, Kibana, or similar)
- Strong grasp of data structures, algorithms, and design patterns
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum teams with CI/CD pipelines
- Basic frontend understanding; you are not expected to be a frontend engineer, but you will be expected to grow your frontend knowledge progressively over time as part of your development at Brevo
Nice to Have
- Prior experience in a high-scale SaaS or B2B email/marketing technology
- Familiarity with AI tools and coding agents (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or similar AI-assisted development workflows); strong integration of these tools into daily workflow is a plus
