Job Description

Who are we?

Checkmarx is the AI-powered application security leader helping the world’s most security-

conscious enterprises secure the software that powers modern life. For more than two

decades, our unified platform and services have helped organizations protect human- and AI-

generated code from the first line through runtime, reducing risk across applications, cloud,

and the software supply chain without slowing innovation.

We’re trusted by 1,600+ customers in 70+ countries, including some of the largest enterprises

and governments in the world. Guided by research-led innovation and a developer-first

mindset, we help every developer, security team, and enterprise build software that is risk-free

by design.

What are we looking for?

Chiron is a Checkmarx Core Platform R&D team that owns several core domains across our platform — including project and application management and risk management — that help customers understand and act on their security posture. We're looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join the team as a core contributor, owning significant parts of the backend behind these capabilities. The role is backend-first and Go-centric, but you'll also touch the React front end when a feature calls for it — so comfort moving across the stack matters. Quality is a shared responsibility here: our QA partner owns most test automation, but team members regularly pitch in to keep automation coverage moving and avoid bottlenecks.

How will you make an impact?

  • Design and develop functional and technical capabilities within Chiron's large-scale, distributed backend systems, making ongoing architecture and design decisions
  • Take full ownership of features and product areas end-to-end: architecture, coding, testing, CI/CD, and production observability
  • Build and operate distributed microservices — gRPC/REST APIs, message queues, PostgreSQL-backed services — deployed on Kubernetes
  • Build and maintain React components/pages (e.g., risk tables, single-risk views) that consume your backend services when a feature requires front-end changes
  • Partner with our QA team on test automation — pitching in on backend automation in Go and front-end automation in Cypress when needed — to help keep coverage moving and reduce bottlenecks
  • Use AI-assisted coding tools as part of your day-to-day development workflow, from writing and reviewing code to test generation and debugging
  • Work smoothly with local and remote, multi-geo R&D and non-R&D teams, maintaining high visibility and effective communication
  • Provide in-depth technical knowledge, guidance, and mentorship to other team members as needed
  • Participate actively in design discussions and code reviews, holding the team to high execution and quality standards

Requirements

What is needed to succeed?

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
  • Strong, hands-on background in Go in production systems
  • Working proficiency in React — able to build and maintain UI components/pages, even though the role is primarily backend
  • Strong quality awareness — you think about testability and edge cases as you design, and you're comfortable jumping into test automation alongside QA when needed
  • Comfortable contributing to test automation, ideally backend automation in Go and/or front-end automation in Cypress (or a similar framework, with willingness to pick up Cypress)
  • Practical experience using AI coding assistants (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor) as part of your regular development workflow, and comfortable adopting them as standard practice on this team
  • Excellent understanding of modern distributed software architecture: microservices, gRPC/REST APIs, message queues, relational databases (PostgreSQL)
  • Experience with Docker and Kubernetes
  • Experience developing with modern Agile methodologies (Scrum, CI/CD, TDD)
  • Quick to learn new technologies and apply them to complex problems
  • Highly organized, with strong quality and delivery discipline; self-managed and flexible to change
  • Excellent English communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Strong team player

Nice to have

  • Experience with Cypress specifically for end-to-end front-end testing
  • Application/cyber security background
  • Experience with GitOps and Infrastructure-as-Code tooling (Terraform, Helm, ArgoCD)
  • Experience with OpenTelemetry or production observability tooling
