Senior Software Engineer, Digital Farming Solutions (EMEA)

In DFS (Digital Farming Solutions), we build Climate FieldView and a growing ecosystem of digital tools that turn satellite imagery, weather data, soil sensors, and agronomic science into real-time decisions for millions of farmers, from seeding to harvest.

Purpose of Role:

The Senior Software Engineer serves as a key technical contributor within the squad, ensuring the delivery of high-quality software and driving technical decisions that shape how we build and operate our systems. The role strengthens our engineering standards, partners closely with product teams to define customer value, and tackles complex technical challenges that directly influence the impact of our digital farming solutions. Through coaching at the team level, the Senior Software Engineer fosters a culture of learning and knowledge sharing within the squad.

Your missions:

Break down complex requirements into clear, actionable solutions and uphold strong engineering standards across code quality, testing, and monitoring. Contribute to the architectural approach for how your squad builds software, from quality practices to technical decisions, and coach your peers by fostering a culture of learning and knowledge sharing. Use AI-assisted development tools responsibly to accelerate delivery without compromising quality.

What you'll do:

• Deliver high-quality software by collaborating and contributing to complex designs within the team, independently converting requirements into functional designs, and ensuring solutions are consistent with team standards.
• Promote and incorporate technical quality and standard methodologies for your team, engaging in peer reviews and ensuring tests, code quality, monitoring standards, product support, and quality practices are consistently applied.
• Partner with product teams to shape the value proposition, and optimize technical solutions within your team's focus area.
• Navigate ambiguity by identifying risks and dependencies, proactively driving solutions, trade-offs for efforts with mostly concrete objectives, and contributing to project clarity.
• Work independently on multiple features, ensuring compatibility with team's standards, and consistently provide guidance and support to other team members about assigned tasks.
• Coach and collaborate at team level build opportunities to teach and learn across domains within the squad, communicate effectively with technical and non-technical staff, and foster a culture of knowledge sharing.
• Adopt AI-assisted development tools to accelerate delivery and improve quality, ensuring responsible use of AI-generated code.

What you bring:

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
• Has well-developed core skills. Shows expertise in one domain and basic knowledge in other relevant domains Independently researches, learns, and applies standard methodologies.
• Depth: Python (robust, scalable backend engineering, data pipelines, and service development) and AWS Infrastructure (cloud architecture, networking, security, and services such as ECS, RDS, S3, VPC, IAM), containerization (Docker, container orchestration, and image management), and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/CDK).
• Confident Java (backend services and enterprise integrations), AWS Serverless (Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, EventBridge, Step Functions), API design (REST/GraphQL), testing (unit/integration), and CI/CD pipelines.
• Curiosity: Agentic AI exposure, observability (distributed tracing, metrics, structured logging), and TypeScript/React awareness for effective full-stack collaboration.
• Proven ability to promote and incorporate quality standards within a team.
• Experience decomposing significant problems and collaborating with enterprise-level engineering to develop solutions.
• Strong understanding of trade-offs between different solution methodologies.
• Demonstrated ability to partner with product to shape value propositions and evaluate if a technical solution managed by their team solves the customer's problem.
• Effective communicator across technical and non-technical audiences.
• Proactive problem-solver comfortable navigating ambiguity.
• Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.

Nice to have:

• Experience in agricultural technology, IoT, or complex scientific domains
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and modern CI/CD practices
• Experience with AI-assisted development tools and practices
• Contributions to open-source projects or published technical thought leadership
