Position Overview:

Mastercam seeks a Sr. Software Engineer (Cloud Integration & SDK Connectivity) who will be responsible for designing and building the next generation of cloud-enabled services that integrates deeply with the Mastercam desktop product. Mastercam is a C++-based CAM application used globally and is evolving toward a hybrid desktop and cloud platform. This hands-on technical leadership role builds cloud services, contributes to integration patterns, enables real-time communication, and extends existing SDK capabilities to work seamlessly over web APIs.

Key Responsibilities:

Cloud Platform & Web Services Development

  • Build cloud services primarily using C#/.NET on Kubernetes.
  • Design, build, and operate production-grade cloud services that integrate with the Mastercam desktop product.
  • Develop and maintain REST, gRPC, and/or JSON-RPC APIs with strong contract discipline and long-term maintainability.
  • Deliver services designed for scalability, reliability, performance, and cost awareness.
  • Apply security-first engineering practices, including secure API patterns, pipeline security, secure software supply chain practices, and service-to-service communication.
  • Build with observability in mind, including logging, metrics, and tracing, and support production operations.

Real-Time, Messaging & Distributed Integration

  • Contribute to distributed integration patterns across desktop clients and cloud services.
  • Collaborate on integrations using messaging and eventing platforms such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, or equivalent.
  • Support real-time or bidirectional communication using WebSockets, SignalR, or gRPC streaming when needed.
  • Contribute to resilient and scalable integration patterns for asynchronous systems.

Data Contracts, Serialization & Interoperability

  • Define and evolve data exchange contracts between desktop and cloud systems.
  • Use and maintain schema-based contracts such as Protobuf and/or JSON Schema.
  • Ensure compatibility and controlled evolution of contracts over time.
  • Integrate with external and partner services using lean and maintainable patterns.

Platform Alignment & Engineering Excellence

  • Work effectively within a broader platform ecosystem owned by partner and business-unit teams.
  • Participate in identity and access management discussions and implement compliant integrations.
  • Own solutions end to end, from prototype through production and maintenance.
  • Apply best practices for code quality, testing, CI/CD, secure development, and documentation.
  • Participate in cross-team technical discussions, code reviews, and operational support.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience, preferred.
  • 10+ years of professional experience building web APIs and cloud services.
  • Strong proficiency in C#/.NET for building cloud services and APIs.
  • Experience integrating native desktop applications with cloud services, including data serialization, schema evolution, performance considerations, and large codebases.
  • Experience with streaming or bidirectional client/server communication patterns.
  • Experience designing service-based or microservice-oriented architectures.
  • Experience building or supporting developer platforms, SDKs, or extensibility frameworks preferred.
  • Experience with event-driven and messaging systems preferred.
  • Familiarity with CAD/CAM, engineering software, or manufacturing systems preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively with native desktop codebases, with C++ strongly preferred.
  • Experience leveraging AI-enabled tools or automation to improve productivity and operational effectiveness, or a demonstrated ability to rapidly learn, evaluate, and apply such technologies at scale.

Key Competencies

  • Strong system design, debugging, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to own solutions from concept through production operations.
  • Ability to influence architecture decisions, mentor engineers, and raise engineering quality.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills across desktop, cloud, and platform teams.

This role will focus on integrating an acquired company (to be acquired) to Mastercam per Sandvik's and Mastercam's program and processes - from a compliance and financial controls perspective.

As the integration work will go down over time, the role is expected to take broader BA wide responsibilities e.g. under the common Sandvik compliance program (and also locally for the Hub and our other local business).
